Last night/this morning I had a dream about having a kid with Catherine. He was a tiny little wrinkly thing, dark hair and green eyes. At first he squirmed a lot, but eventually he calmed down and opened his eyes. We called him Kevin, after either my brother or Catherine's passed-away friend. At one point, I think I asked for him to be put in a diaper (completely unrealistic), but maybe it was some kind of way of signalling that I was accepting him? Strangely, I occasionally saw my face mirrored in his, complete with long hair and scruff. There was a bit of a timeskip to having him toddle around. I took him to a Whole Foods type of grocery store at a mall and just watched him try to figure out his way inside to mommy. He was very unsteady and part of this required balancing against a little yellow chair. Catherine was a little bit afraid of him especially since he would cry when he was away from me but I told her that was because she wasn't spending enough time with him. He calmed down pretty quickly. We then ended up going to some sort of community seminar thing. It was hosted by Saratoga High but at some sort of ex-school kind of place - very open architecture with organic flowing lines. I think the main speaker was some sort of Kucer-analog. There was some mingling ahead of time and I bumped into a girl that reminded me of the mathematician girl that I learned to dance some ballroom with, super nerdy and awkward, and she asked if I knew what a "_____ ball?" was. I responded yes I knew, since it was some sort of duelling circle of stringed instruments. I think I was thinking of that German? group of contemporary/performance-oriented string quartet. She smiled with a bunch of teeth and said something about "yes, a witches' ___". We filtered in and found some seats, some people came by to pass out some wrapped candies which I passed down the row, and the lecture. Beck started playing, I think mostly a backbone of "Dreams" with some of the riffs of "Loser" or maybe some "E-Pro." And then after the first verse or so had played, the two speakers (can't remember what they looked like anymore) came out and told us to remix what we had heard. I somehow got my hands on it and started messing around with the drum line since it was pivotal, but then they made some kind of snarky comment so I started playing through the music line by line (it was on some type of sheet music-type notation, kind of like Ableton or a drum machine), and then I passed off the controller to someone else to start remixing. We were told we had a certain amount of time and I think the idea was to try remixing something and then the lecturers would come in, appraise it, do a bit of tweaking, and lecture on the topic. I considered doubling the bpm and changing the beat to be a bit more upbeat, but then I decided against it. Then somewhere in this time segment, I woke up.
