Some Kind of Summary: Life, for Matthew William Jones, was pretty ordinary with several added 'spices' here and there. And when his twin brother, Alfred, started getting out with Arthur Kirkland, it seemed Matthew's life had become... spicier.

*******

If Matthew William Jones were to describe his life, he would say that it was pretty ordinary with some added spices scattered here and there. He was an ordinary highschooler, with an ordinary set of parents who worked ordinary job. His grades were good, even though not really remarkable. His look was not something that could make him dubbed as the heartthrob in his school, but he knew that it was not so bad. Should he be more daring, Matthew would even consider himself as pretty much good looking.

All in all, Matthew could safely say that his life was pretty much ordinary, but-because there was always a 'but'-his life also had several... perks, the so-called spices in life. And for Matthew, the so-called spice was his twin brother, Alfred.

Matthew loved Alfred. He loved him truly and unconditionally. After all, it was hard not to love someone who literally shared his life from the very time they were born to the world. But at times, Alfred could be so maddening that Matthew sometimes wanted nothing but to bash his brother's head to the wall and screamed at him to just leave him the hell alone.

But he never did that. He loved Alfred too much. So when that day Alfred, like how he had done several times in the past, barged into his room and disrupted him in the middle of finishing his essay, Matthew only sighed and decided that his essay could wait until later that night.

"So," he said, sitting beside Alfred on the floor, their backs propped against his bed. "What have you done this time?"

Alfred scrunched his face at him. "What makes you think I've done something?"

“I see," he said. "So it's 'what are you about to do', isn't it?"

"World domination," Alfred said flatly.

"Oh, good," he said. "At least you have such a big ambition."

"Mattie, come on, man," Alfred sighed and Matthew saw him running his fingers through his hair-a sure sign that he was deeply distressed. He frowned, and started to get worried. "I need your help."

Like what had been stated, Matthew loved Alfred, loved him very much, but he still had some rational mind in him. Yes, he loved Alfred and was willing to help him any way he could. But he swore that if Alfred were to ask his help for something that involved police, nude girls, or street thugs, he would most definitely say 'no' and made a clear border between him and Alfred marked with 'I will not cross this line'.

"What... kind of help?" he said warily.

"Hey, chill out, man, I'm not doing something criminal," Alfred said. "It's Arthur."

"Ah," Mathew said as realization dawned in him. Of course, if there was anything, or rather anyone, that could made Alfred so distressed, it would surely be Arthur, Alfred's newfound 'boyfriend'. And it was a bit ironic, really, when he thought about it. So the one who could make Alfred so distressed was also the one that Alfred seemed to love more than anything in the whole world. It was a bit pathetic.

But then again, Alfred was probably the person that could make him feels really distressed, and he loved Alfred, so perhaps he was not the one to talk.

"What's wrong between you and Arthur?" he asked, curious. "You two seem to be okay to me."

"It's not really something 'wrong'," Alfred said. "I'm just... confused."

"What? Now that you're together with him you're getting confused whether you really want to be with him or not?" Matthew asked, perhaps harsher than necessary. He could still remember those weeks a couple of months back when Alfred was so very much in denial about his feeling for Arthur. It took weeks full of brooding and ranting-courtesy of Alfred-and some rational advices-courtesy of him-before Alfred finally admitted that he liked Arthur Kirkland and gathered enough courage to confess his feeling to him.

They had been together ever since, and Matthew could see that they were very much in love with each other. If Alfred really went back to questioning his relationship with Arthur, he was really tempted to smack him over the head. For one thing, he did not really look forward to days of hearing Alfred bemoaning and ranting about his feeling for Arthur and whether it was love he felt for him and he just could not stop thinking about him and...

"No, not like that!" Alfred denied vehemently, stopping Matthew from his contemplation. "I want to be together with Arthur. I love being together with him. Hell, I love him. But it's really hard, you see.”

“Hard as in…”

“Hard as in I never got involved with a man before and now I don’t know what’s supposed to be my next move,” Alfred said. “Dammit, man… I mean, intimacy… okay, sex is supposed to be spontaneous and good, okay, not something that you have to think over and get thoroughly confused.”

Matthew needed a moment to gape before he could shout, “Alfred!”

“What?” Alfred said.

“You’re so… impossible sometimes,” he said with an exasperated sigh.

“I’m not. It’s perfectly logical consideration,” Alfred grumbled. “I’ve been together with Arthur for… what, two months already. I’m ready to… take another step further, you know, and I want to. But I don’t know how and I don’t want to hurt him and I don’t want to force him. I want to do it right. And I can’t understand why the hell am I so bothered over this matter, why can’t I just… go with it? I mean, why must I be thinking of so many ways to make our first time special? And I even refer to it as ‘our first time’ oh God, Mattie, I’ve become a woman!”

Matthew took a deep breath and stared, really stared at his brother. He saw how Alfred’s eyes had the hint of panic in them. He noticed how Alfred hugged his knees to his chest. He could read his twin’s body language and decide that, yep, Alfred was really troubled over the matter.

It was really sweet and adorable, actually.

“Okay, so I understand your problem, somewhat,” he said carefully. “But I can’t understand why you go to me for help. If it’s about romancing a guy, we both know that you have more experience than me, seeing that I never got any boyfriend to speak of.”

Alfred shrugged and he moved closer. A second later, Matthew found the weight of Alfred’s head settling against his shoulder.

“Dunno,” Alfred said. “Perhaps I just want to share. Perhaps I want to know if you, by some miracle, have some information that can be of use for me.”

“Try the internet?” he suggested.

Alfred snorted. “Mattie, internet taught me that I could magically make my cock bigger by using some drug with curious spelling and we both know what kind of crap it is. I don’t dare imagining what kind of ‘information’ I would get if I dare venturing there.”

“Ask Mom,” he tried again.

He could feel Alfred’s incredulous glare being directed at him. “You can’t be serious.”

“She most obviously has several experiences on romancing guys,” he said with an inner smirk. It was just so fun messing with Alfred’s brain, sometimes, like that. “Or there are some books. At least I’m sure that books are more reliable than the internet.”

“Yeah, perhaps that’s what I’m going to do,” Alfred mumbled. “Is it weird?”

Matthew turned his face a bit so his cheek was pressed to the top of Alfred’s head, feeling his twin’s hair tickling his skin. “Hm?”

“Is it weird that I care so much about this thing with Arthur?” Alfred said. “It’s not like I’ve never been in a relationship before. But with him I’m always so… nervous, like I’m such a blushing virgin trying his hand at fairytale love. I want everything to be perfect. I want to do things right. I can’t be developing OCD, right?”

“You love him,” he said. “Of course you want everything to be perfect for him. It’s not weird. It’s expected and it’s sweet. You simply want him to be happy and when you love someone, it’s not weird to wish them happiness”

Alfred chuckled. “Matthew William Jones, my ultimate love doctor.”

“No one dared to take the position so I made my way to the top without much hassle,” he said with a matching chuckle.

“So, Doc,” Alfred said, grinning down at him. “What’s your suggestion for my problem this time?”

Matthew managed the sternest face he could muster and said, “Go get laid.”

Alfred’s laughter rang so very loud in the room until Matthew flinched. He was sure that their neighbor three houses down could hear how loud his twin was. With a perfectly valid feeling of mortification, he punched Alfred’s shoulder. Hard.

“Shut up, will you, you’re disturbing the neighborhood,” he said.

“Ow,” Alfred said, rubbing his shoulder. There was a trace of tears on the edge of his eyes, his eyes that seemed to sparkle with mirth. “That fucking hurts, you jerk.”

Matthew could not help the snort escaping his lips. “Oh, quit the dramatics.”

He felt Alfred sliding off to lie on the floor. His eyes seemed to stare at his bedroom ceiling, lost in thought. And Matthew just stared at him, thinking of the years he had spent together with Alfred and how, even after so many crazy things that Alfred had done, he still loved his brother so.

But then that he thought about it, it would soon be their birthday. Perhaps…

“So, yeah, better let you finishing up that essay,” Alfred said suddenly, disrupting the silence, as he hauled his body up. He dusted his thighs, more from habit than necessity for they both knew that Matthew was bordering fanatical in cleaning his room. “By the way, you got anything you want?”

Matthew only looked up at his twin in confusion. Anyone who said how twins were able to communicate without words surely must be lying. Or perhaps they had never met Alfred. “Huh?”

“Birthday, Mattie, my dear brother,” Alfred said, grinning at him. “Less than a week from now we’ll be seventeen. So, anything you want to get for your birthday?”

Matthew calmly pondered, thinking of the things he might need or things he wanted but somehow too lazy to get, then shrugged. He stood up and said, “Surprise me?”

“Huh, okay,” Alfred said. “How about I get you a girlfriend? I think you need one. You seem sexually deprived, Mattie.”

“Alfred!” he said indignantly.

Alfred pretended not to hear him as he continued his babble, “I notice it, you know. You have an eye for that cute exchange student from Ukraine, yeah?”

Matthew could feel himself blushing. “That’s not…”

“And she has amazing boobs, man. You have great taste!” Alfred said. “Though I never guessed that you’re such a size queen.”

“That’s it,” Matthew said as he threw his pillow to Alfred, who only laughed and made a dash to the door. “Out, you!”

Alfred did get out from his room, laughing madly all the way. And after his twin left his room Matthew sat back on his bed, feeling annoyed yet at the same time amused. Only Alfred, he thought fondly, who could make him so exasperated until he nearly could kill him, yet also so happy until he would do anything for him.

A week, he thought, pretty long time for choosing a gift. But… somehow he already had a good guess about what he should give Alfred that year.

A week later, Matthew was wrapping book titled ‘The Joy of Gay Sex’ for Alfred though he couldn’t still get over his embarrassment when the cashier at the bookstore he visited at that time suggested about several other books that he might want ‘to get things hotter with his boyfriend’. He could only splutter that time and politely declined her suggestion, saying that he was only buying it for his brother. But perhaps that only made it worse, for afterward she was looking at him like he was a poor boy still in struggle about his sexuality until he did not dare getting out fully from his closet.

But all was well, in a sense, and Matthew was ready to give Alfred his present. He would leave it in front of Alfred’s bedroom door-that was the way they always exchanged birthday presents ever since they were little. And when he opened the door of his bedroom, ready to go to Alfred’s room, he noticed a thin envelope lying innocently on his doorstep.

He frowned and picked the envelope up. He wondered if Alfred gave up and merely gave him some money of gift voucher but when he opened the envelope, he found two concert tickets for his favorite band inside with a note written in torn notebook paper.

The note read:

Dear Mattie,

Happy birthday :) know you love this band so I got these for you. Oh, and I have it from reliable source that your lovely Ukrainian girl also loves this band so what are you waiting for, man, go ask her out! And this time perhaps I can be your love doctor XD

Love,
Alfred

He snickered and somewhat felt touched that Alfred could give him such heartfelt gift. He carefully put the tickets and the note back to the envelope and continued his trek to Alfred’s room.

The door to Alfred’s room was closed, but he knew that his twin had to be alert on the back of that door, waiting for the faint ‘thunk’ sound that indicated that Matthew had put his present down. He thought of saving Alfred the trouble and called out to him.

“Hey, Alfred,” he said as he put his present on Alfred’s doorstep. “Happy birthday!”

From inside the room, came Alfred’s voice. “Happy birthday to you too, oh, dear twin of mine. And… oh, is that my gift? It sounds big and heavy… lovely.”

He snorted, “Thank you for the gift. Mom’s making cake, coming downstairs with me?”

“No way,” Alfred’s bellowing voice rang clear and loud even from behind closed door. “I want to open and savor my birthday present first, thank you. Shush, you, the longer you’re standing there, the longer I have to wait before I can enjoy your gift!”

He only chuckled as his response before he walked down the stairs to the kitchen. Their mother always baked cakes during their birthday, and if Alfred did not want to come down, so be it. It only meant that he could get the first-and best-slice out of their birthday cake. He was not complaining, surely.

Then he recalled how well Alfred’s sound carried through the walls and door. Thinking of the consequences that might follow his gift for Alfred, Matthew felt some shiver creeping down his back.

Perhaps he should ask his mother for thicker wall to be installed between their rooms.

End

(A/N: Well, look at that! A sequel! After all these months! Whew!)
