may is halfway over and the rain has just let up. five days of dreary asphalt grey and persistently wet pantlegs and playing connect-the-dots with flattened earthworms and cigarette butts on the sidewalk. even today the sun is only halfheartedly dodging the clouds. drinking too much on a wednesday night and you're puking up that jumbo pretzel you shouldn't have eaten for lunch in the taco bell parking lot in front of a small throng of your mildly amused but mostly just disgusted peers. and on friday, we are nightriders, embryonic poltergeists sent to burn all nuggets of truth and eternal wisdom. it is said that a new era is beginning. it is sad that I will have to miss it.
