*One door. He was off by one stupid door. Three more feet and he'd have been at the kitchen, but no. Near swears the mansion switches more than should be possible ( Read more... )

A door. A simple door. It doesn't have an X on it, and he swore that it was the room that the blind Near had said leads to the kitchen. So, he opens it and peers inside. It's dark.

No freaking thank you.

He moves to close the door again, but something pushes him (he doesn't stumble, if that's what you were wondering), and he falls... but the fall is wierd, because it's like he's being thrown. In any case, he gets up, pupils dilating in the dark, paranoia setting in. Was this what they meant about those rooms? Dangerous? He swallows harshly, before an odd weight in his pocket distracts him. Pulling it out, he has to look at it really hard to figure out what it is.

A baseball. The fuck? He inwardly groans, but grips the thing harder in his hand, ready to chuck it at the first thing that moves as he shrinks backwards, eyes wide and scared. What's going on here?

((OoC: I know you said baseball bats were allowed, so I hope this is okay too... I almost gave him a rock XP))

Who's there?

*Near pushes out of the nearby cornstalks, and hopefully won't have the baseball thrown at him.*

[ooc: whatever the mun wants! This is horror movie improvisation. *chortles gleefully and comes up with a monster to be chasing A*]

He shrinks back at the voice, cocking his arm to throw the baseball. He'd never been good at sports, and probably wouldn't be able to hit a target if his life depended on it, so really, Near had nothing to worry about. The voice, though... he recognizes the voice.

N-N-Near? He's stuttering, his hands are shaking. He's nervous and paranoid and he's going to have a coniption if he's not careful. What... where... I-I...

He pauses, to catch his breath and speak correctly.

It's A... Is... is this what you meant, by... the rooms.. dangerous?

((OoC: XD Of course, he can't throw worth crap, so it's not like he can even use it. I'm a horrible sadist... XP))

Yes, and this is one of the dangerous ones.

There are things in here with us. Where are you?

*Near gropes through the corn, carefully, still clinging doggedly to his pitchfork.*

He swallows hard, trying not to shake or just lose it all together. This was the first time he'd been in a room like this. It was making him sick. At the words, he reaches out for Near's wrist and ends up getting an ankle for some reason. He forgot to get up when he was thrown in here. How could he forget to do that?

Th-that's me... Shit. Okay. I'm good.

Deep breaths. That's it. It's just another playful room. He can't really die in here, can he? Deep breaths.

Are.... you're the N I met before... r-right?

Yes. And if I've survived in here thus far, A, you can too. Get up. *Near reaches down to help him.*

But don't let your head go over the corn stalks, and don't be too loud, or cause too much movement.

I need you to listen to me carefully.

He accepts the help, standing with a small bit of difficulty, but he's not dead. He won't die. He has Near, right? Near was smart. Blind, but smart. And they got along okay...

Got it...

He turns to Near attentively, gripping the stupid baseball tightly as he tries not to pay attention to the hair raising on the back of his neck.

I've made it out once already, but I got dragged back in. The way to do it is to get to the farm house. Can you see it from here?

*He gestures in the approximate direction.*

Don't stop for any doors you see along the way, they don't last. There are things in the corn with us, you need to tell me what you see as it comes. I'll tell you how to get around it.

Do you see the farmhouse, A?

Farmhouse?

He looks around. He needs to be Near's eyes for this, he knows it. He looks around. Farmhouse. Don't stop for doors. Things in the corn? Monsters?

Um... There's a dark shape up there. It looks like a house, I think. It's hard to see in the dark...

He realizes what he just said, eyes widening as he looks toward Near. Not like Near would be able to see at all. He should feel lucky, but now he just felt bad. I'm sorry, I didn't mean... Well... yeah. I... I'm sure that's a farmhouse... It's a ways away though...

We have to get there. Let's start moving, as quickly, but as quietly as possible.

Take my hand. Try to stay between the rows, rather than cutting across, as much and as long as possible. We'll save the sprint for the end.

S--sprint?

It's not that he's a bad runner He's got the right body type for it. But he doesn't like the idea of having to run. Did that mean that there really were things in here? Should he be running through a cornfield? That obstructed his vision. Couldn't they retrace their steps, find a way out, and go around? Shaking the thought from his head, he takes a deep breath and grips onto Near's hand, moving as quietly as he could.

Umm... O...Okay...

Just in case.

*Something rustles in the corn ahead of them. It looks like an impossibly tall person, running the opposite direction.*

...I think we're alright. They're heading away.

At the sight of something moving ahead of them, A freezes for a split second, but soon recovers, shivering in the cold. He doesn't quite know what this is or what he's supposed to be doing, but he's moving and trying to steer Near along, but it's hard because a part of him is terrified and a part of him is paranoid, and the two parts are clashing together far too well for him to be able to hold on for much longer.

Th--there was something... something running that way.

He whispers in a low, shaky voice. Biting his lower lip, he looked back to Near before pausing and glancing around.

What... what's in here? With us? You--you said there were things... what--what sort of things?

I don't know exactly. I've been trying to get out for a while.

*Something rustles just behind them, and Near picks up the pace a little.*

It seems to depend on what part of the field you're in. All I'll say is that it's not safe, and we need to get to the side door of the farm house.

I think-

*Something hisses and clicks, just to their left, and Near's hand tightens on A's.*

-get ready to run, if we have to.

Moves faster, but his eyes are wandering over to the thing behind them. He's not sure what it is, but A knows that he doesn't want to find out. As Near is cut off, he could swear that his heart skipped a beat, nodding somewhat as they scurried off, faster, faster...

Until he trips over something cold and wet, letting go of Near's hand as he sprawls to his knees, fearfully looking back at what had tripped him.

She's almost pretty. Wearing a white dress that has long since been drenched by the night. Her features are pale, and it's impossible to see her face through the curtain of dark hair hanging over her eyes, but even A can hear her sobbing. A realizes that he tripped over her outstretched leg, and hastens to apologize, but doesn't for some reason.

Who is this?

N--Near? There... there's a... a girl... and she.... He tilts his head, reaching out to touch her shoulder. All hell is about to break loose not ten steps behind then, but he can't just leave her here, can he? Hey... don't cry. Come on, we'll get you to safety, ( ... )

NO A DON'T TALK TO HER DON'T TOUCH HER RUN!--

*dragging him physically away, he knows the feeling now, that a ghost gives you when it comes too close. Every hair on end, chills down his back, a sense of evil.*

RUN!
