*One door. He was off by one stupid door. Three more feet and he'd have been at the kitchen, but no. Near swears the mansion switches more than should be possible

-Mello, bored again, has been wandering the hallways, and he thought he saw his Near duck into this room, so he follows through the doorway a few steps behind.-
Oi, Nat -
-A closer inspection, and Mello recognizes this isn't the Near he was looking for.-
Oh, it's the boy Nat.
-He looks at his hands, which, he is surprised to find, are now holding a large wooden cross and a bottle of holy water.-
-Mello stops in his tracks, holding his breath, straining to listen. Wind whips around his head, sending a slight shiver down his back. He tries to shrug it off.-
Has it occured to you that my hearing is probably better than yours?
*He can't hear it either right now, though, it's either backed off or stopped moving. A cornstalk snaps, and he whips around, pitchfork travelling distressingly close to Mello's arm as he spins, nervously.*
-Mello slides a little closer to Near, without even realizing it. He could comment on the blindness, but at this point, his usual smartass comments have been disabled by the icy terror has crept into his brain. He whips his head around, searching for an exit.-
I don't see a door ... I don't see a way out, at all.
-Mello is absolutely terrified, and you can tell because he doesn't even protest Near's suggestion. He shoves the bottle of holy water in his back pocket to free a hand and takes a deep breath.-
-And in the next instant, Mello springs into a sprint in the opposite direction from the snarling noise, jerking Near along and holding on for dear life. They only make it a few feet before they trip over younger Mello and crash to the ground.-
-Little Mello is following stalking keeping an eye on Older Mello, and he sees him go into a room. So, concerned, but not going to admit it, he runs after him, and steps into the room just as the door closes. He too, is holding a wooden cross, but... a size smaller.-

Oi, watch it with that thing! You blind or something?
-He stares off, nervously, in the direction he thought he heard the noise coming from, eyes wide and searching for movement.-
What the fuck was that?

*Idiot.*
It's-
*He shrinks back towards Mello, clutching the pitchfork tighter.*
Can you see a door? Is there a door in here?

*Near refuses to panic. Panic will cloud his judgement.*
Some sort of landmark.

Yeah ... it's about five feet in front of us. There's some kind of fucking huge piece of equipment off to the right, too.

But we might find a door. And we won't find one in here, that much is certain.

-Mello freezes as another cornstalk snaps with a loud crack.-
... FUCK. We're gonna die.

*He'll never find his way out otherwise.*
Please. Run.

All right. Gimme your hand.
-Mello takes Near's hand, gripping firmly.
Just don't poke my eye out with that thing, OK?
All right, you ready?
Reply
*Something snarls, a few feet away from them.*
NOW MELLO.
