[Alternate will hear the sound of Misa's voice from behind him.]

Um...

[At first she sounds confused, then her voice drops into a hushed, disbelieving mutter.]

... what the fuck.

[She kneels down and picks up the object from the corner closest to the door. She holds it by two fingers and dangles it upside down in front of her face, eyes squinting as she carefully scrutinizes it.

It's a light bulb.]

A turned around, a little surprised to hear a woman use a word like that, and even more surprised to see what she had. He raised an eyebrow.

"Perhaps you needed some illumination?" He said it before he thought about it, oh good job A, that will impress her. He smiled to cover his faux-pas. "Light, I mean, you need a light bulb for something yes?"

[She regards him with a very sardonic glare]

... ... this is the... room that [- wave of the free arm -] grants people wishes? Their deepest wants and desires?

"I wouldn't say their deepest wishes and desires," A mused, glancing at the table, otherwise Amel's B would be on it with his heart cut-out. He looked back at her, "you don't need a light bulb then I take it?"

[In which Misa has the same train of thought.]

...

... ...you're right, it clearly doesn't grant our deepest wishes... but...

[Trails off. Looks... disgruntled and embarrassed. She closes her eyes and sighs.]

No, I don't need a light bulb.

"...Perhaps it's a symbol for something else?" And watch A show how dense he really is, but he's simply ignorant, and he is really trying to be helpful.

He looked at the knife, "I desired this because I want to show my friend how to defend himself."

[Misa is amused. She's also damn grateful Alternate was unaware of Misas' relationships with Lights. She focuses her attention on his knife. A blink.]

Christ... What happened to your friend?

"Let's just see his B is everything wrong with the breed," A brief look of hatred flashed in his eyes, but he looked away and composed himself. He looked back and sighed.

"He's...one you must really watch out for. He's tall, Japanese, about sixteen, with black eyes."

[There is a brief silence where Misa tries to fit pieces of the puzzle together. She recalls the last time she heard about B, a particularly dangerous one too. The blond-haired Alternate who told her about it had an arm injury as well and alluded to that injury being caused by his Beyond. And this Alternate here wanted to defend his friend...]

... is your friend Amel?

[She's forgotten the stress on anonymity once again.]

The reaction was of course instantaneous; A tensed up, his eyes wide. Until now he was the only one to ever call Amel by name! He opened his mouth then shut it, could he give away they had such intimacy? Only a B should know his name however! Did one tell her for some reason? A was obviously in a quandary, could he possibly hide his torrent of emotions?

“Who is Amel?” he asked carefully. He have to handle this as cautiously.

[Misa frowns, slightly miffed to have made a wrong assumption. She was mistaken; perhaps Alternate didn't know his counterpart.]

Uh, he's this blonde-haired boy with glasses. Is apparently fluent in French. He goes by Alternate too, I believe.

"Yes, he is my friend, I didn't know his name however," It was a necessary lie; the two had already suffered greatly because someone hostile had found out about their intimacy. "He has me call him A however."

"So how do you know his name?" he kept his tone curious, and the rising fear out of it.

[Misa is starting to sense that Alternate was getting extremely wary of her. She could spin a pretty web in order to get out of the lion's cave, but there was very little reason to do so. It's not as if she begrudged him or anything.]

... do you know the ability Beyond Birthday has? Why some Beyonds have red eyes?

"Yes I do," A admitted, and if one had suddenly started to tattle they have to be told or made to shut-up. He was dead, but Amel wasn't. He may one day go home, and his identity couldn't be jepordized.

[She tenses, not visibly, but... For some reason, she felt strangely threatened at the moment. Not directly by the boy in front of her, but it was just the overwhelming ambiance in general.]

I have the same ability. Difference is, for him it was innate, and for me, it was manufactured.

A’s eyes widened, other people can have this ability? He suppressed a groan, god was there even any point in keeping their names a secret? He looked back at Misa however with an expression bordering on sympathy, so, she knew when everyone around her would die as well?

“So, you’re implying you give this ability…these eyes of a Shinigami?” he asked.
