*A slow nod; she isn't lying to him, a better foot to start off on. His right hand strays to his head, where he pushes his long fingers into his hair, pale against dark, and rubs at his scalp, seeming to be lost in thought.*

*His eyes narrow a little -- not in disapproval, but as if he's considering the concept. It takes him a moment to speak again.*

I do not think you will need to, after you have been here. It isn't likely to go well, in the end; there may be other options --

This place -- do you go by Mello? -- this place is like a hub between parallel universes. It draws in personalities connected to the Kira case like a fishing net; it is likely that you will learn other things you need to know.

*He doesn't add that her presence in the mansion, minus Near's, will probably doom Near in her universe, if the rivalry exists there. Let her discover that for herself.*

[ Mello nods, understandingly. Taking in every word. She was sure the plan would work but if L says it's flawed then it must be. Something else then..]

Mello, yes. Should I use something else to avoid confusion? [A reasonable question to ask, she thinks. How many other Mellos must be using Mello..]

*He shrugs.*

If you want to. The majority of your doubles here are male, but a few have been female. One goes by Mel. Others go by some variation of their real name, but you will understand why that is not necessarily advisable.

Their real name? That's incredibly stupid of them. ..I think I'll stick with what I have then, since females are rare it shouldn't be hard for people to tell the difference.

You will want to find a room for yourself -- most of them are on the second or third floor. Anything that looks unoccupied will be fine. Avoid rooms with Xs on the door -- those are dangerous.

*He pauses, then moves the topic back to something that might be more interesting.*

How much do you know about Kira, Mello?

[She cocks her head. Of course he'd be asking things about Kira..]

Outside of the basics like name and face, there's a notebook. And I'm pretty sure it's Yagami, though I have no proof. Out of everyone on that Task Force it would have to be...

If you think it is Yagami in your world, it probably is. There is a small likelihood that it is someone else, but in that case, it would be unlikely that you would suspect Yagami to begin with.

For example, there has been Near here, in the past, who was Kira.

*He waits for her reaction.*

[She shifts, getting a chocolate out and unwrapping it. She broke a piece off and offered it to him.] ...So I should just go get the source then?

[And the obvious reaction would be complete shock/surprise/wtf-ing] ...What? Near? Near being Kira? Are you fucking kidding me?

*He shakes his head, declining the chocolate; he doesn't know Mello well enough to eat it.*

Do you think you can get the source? He is acting as L in your world, isn't he? That would mean that he would have the protection of a number of active police officers.
