They make a new Star Trek movie! It's a reboot of the original series. And it's got Simon Pegg, and whassface from Heroes and Eomer from Lord of the Rings, and that cute Charlie Bartlett kid, and Harold from Harold and Kumar. I bet they're all doing it for practically no money- I mean, I'd pay to be in Star Trek, wouldn't you?
The reason Star Trek fascinates me is it's vastness. The physics are terribly inaccurate, but that isn't what matters. Over the last four decades we've created this other universe, so vast and expansive that there is something like a year's worth of material on it to watch, a thousand times that to read. It's captured the imaginations of a few hundred thousand frustrated people, and has for ages. It's a testament to human creativity, and hope, and watching it reminds me that no matter how serious my problems may seem, space is very, very big.

[It's like cosplay, only more elaborate. Matt grins at him, and tugs the goggles down.]
You look cute.
[ooc: woot, thanks!]

[The Gene Wilder version of course.]
I'm Matt. I don't think we've met.
