Wandering mind~

Matsuda had nothing to do nowadays. He was still in the task force, sure, but lately the only time he was actually needed was if Misa-Misa-chan felt that she wanted company other than the always serious Light-kun, Or if someone needed coffee, but Matsuda was fairly sure that they could manage that by themselves, right?

he sighed, leaning back in ( Read more... )

*L exits into the hall through a door about fifteen feet away from where Matsuda has found himself. He has a book in one hand, thick and old, but no title is apparent.*

Matsuda? Please be quieter; there is no need to be so noisy.

You have just arrived?

*Matsuda whipped around at the second familar voice and blinked confusedly again. L seemed to recognize him*

I-Im sorry. Ok...Yeah, I was just....

*he tried to think of what just happened before he appeared here*
I just got here *he nodded once*

Calm down, please.

*He looks Matsuda up and down, up and down, with bland disinterest.*

Arriving here can be disorienting, but there's no point in carrying on -- nothing to be done for it, now.

Has anyone explained the place to you yet?

No...*he shook his head, but was calmling down, like he was told*
*he rubbed a hand on the back of his head nervously again*

*He doubts that speaking of theoretical formulations of quantum physics will increase Matsuda's understanding of the situation in any meaningful way, so, with a soft sigh, he elects to explain the mansion in a simpler form.*

If there are parallel universes, where things may be more or less different from your own, this place is a point where the universes can meet in one respect: only people who are in some way related to the Kira case, or their doubles in other universes, will be brought here.

The case is familiar to you, yes?

*matsuda listened, and that small spark of child-like curiosty lit up as L explained* *he felt like it was one of those fiction movies!*
yes, I know the cse..*he nodded*

*of coarse he knew it. He had to help the people who actually did the brainwork* so I get it-..kinda- *he assured L, looking around at the floor*

The consequence is that most people here have one or more doubles. Be prepared to meet yourself walking around a corner.

The place itself -- to begin with, avoid rooms with Xs on the doors. They have been marked because they are dangerous. It is important, Matsuda -- do you understand?

There is a kitchen on every floor, a library on most floors -- the largest is on the eighth. I believe there are ten floors. We are on the third. Most personal rooms are on this level, or the level below; it will be easy to find one for yourself.

*He has finished his recitation, for the time being, and pauses to peer flatly at Matsuda from out of his wide, dark eyes. The hand not holding the book goes up to his temple. His fingers push into his hair, and he begins to rub at his scalp, frowning.*

What were you doing before you came here?

*Matsuda listened, confused but trying to stay focused at the same time. Another him...?*
Yeah. I get it, no going past doors with 'X's.. *he nodded*
*matsuda tried not to look stupidly as L glanced back up at him, but sighed when they rubbed their temple as if given a headache by the mere sight of him*
oh!- uhm, i was just..walking around the city. I took a break from work for once, so i went out to eat *he shrugged*

No. No going into doors with Xs.

Even so, that is no guarantee that you will not wind up in a dangerous room -- it only lessens the chance. Sometimes one is put in the place of a kitchen, or some other place we do not avoid.

*He listens to Matsuda's account of what he had been doing.*

Work? Where were you working?

*Matsuda thought this was all confusing, but L was explaining it, so it made much more sense* *Matsuda decides to move room to room as least as possible*
Uhm, I kinda worked at the task force...You know..To catch kira!^^"

Yes, the task force, but when? You know me, yes? You are not surprised to see me alive?

*matsuda furrowed his eyebrows* No, why..?
*he asked, looking quickly back at L*
*after a second, he guessed, but didnt really like that answer*

Then it is 2004.

What is happening in the case, right now, for you?

*He ignores Matsuda's question: Why? The answer should be obvious, and the expression on Matsuda's face suggests that it has struck him.*

*Matsuda tried to think, but the fact that L had- well, you know-- struck him hard.* we-...-well, you guys had a lead on these people from the Yotsuba group. there were seven guys in this big building *he made hand motions as he talked.* we just didnt know which at the time..

Other than that, misa had just convinced raito-kun to work with you on the case again after your gu's fight *he shrugged* other than that, noting. the next day, i decided to go out to eat by myself. Then im here *points at floor*

I see. It is the fall of 2004? October, perhaps.

*He pauses, giving something a moment of thought, then continues in a dry tone,*

Light is probably Kira, by the way. The murder method is a shinigami's notebook; he arranged to have it passed to Higuchi of the Yotsuba group before going into custody. It is very important that you convince --

*He begins to say "my double," then thinks, No, this is Matsuda -- I will make it easier, and instead says* --

If you return to where you came from, it is vital that you convince me to remove Light from the investigation, and to clear Misa of all charges. Do you understand? I will be killed if you don't.
