Kira Near is Not Amused.

Jul 25, 2008 17:38

There is a Near in the kitchen, and he is not amused.

Thankfully, the kitchen which has been cleared of all mystifying green decomposing bodies as well as passed-out sick people.

But he still isn't amused.  Perhaps it's due to the faint green tinge to his skin, or even the small cough that he's trying to fight off.  In any case, there's soup in a pot ( Read more... )

[Elle doesn't look surprised to see the subdued green across Near's skin, but he isn't pleased, either. He makes his way over to him.]

You're unwell?

N's gaze flits up, looking mildly alarmed at the sight of an L, but he subdues it quickly and shrugs.

"In a manner of speaking."

[Elle isn't sure if he's imagining the look that crosses the Near's face, but he keeps his face impassive and nods.]

How is that?

In any case, he's already looking back down to his toys, shrugging somewhat at the question.

" 'Unwell' is not a good word to describe this. I'm unsure if it is actually a 'sickness' either. Physically, mentally, yes. But it's different than a normal sickness--surely, you've realized by now."

I have. You'd like to suggest a better word?

"Not really." He murmurs, fiddling with one of the figurines, before accidentally dropping it.

"...though I believe it has something to do with the mansion, and--obviously--the body in the kitchen." He falls silent after that, preferring to keep his deductions to himself.

[Elle nods again.]

You believe it has something to do with the mansion itself? I... haven't heard that before.

He shrugs. "Could this have happened in your world, L? I know this sort of... oddity has never been classified in my own. The symptoms do not add up. Therefore, it must either be an effect of the mansion itself, or someone from a world where this is possible, bringing the illness in."

Elle. No. From - what I've seen of the mansion so far, I would guess that the second scenario is the more probable. Keeping in mind that I really haven't been here very long, the rooms seem to work in a way where walking into the problem is something of a requirement.

[He pauses.]

Unless... Has the mansion targeted specific residents before?

He shrugs somewhat.

"You've been around longer than I have.

"Although, I've heard of 'delayed effect' rooms. This... oddity could be an example of one of those, and will go away with time--the body could simply be meant to frighten us." His tone clearly indicated that he wasn't exactly frightened by this in the slightest.

Mm?

'Delayed effect'... that - would make sense, but I couldn't think what the purpose of frightening us would be.

N raises an amused eyebrow. "Purpose? Does anything in this mansion have a purpose, Elle?"

I would say that everything does. Not necessarily something we're aware of, but I'm it makes sense for someone.

Your name is 'Near'?

He shrugs. "A purpose for existing, perhaps. But most of it's actions appear to be mere whims, unless it can somehow see into the future and decide that a change is neccisary. Of course, this is giving into the idea that a mansion can think for itself. Which, in itself is quite improbable.

And, I prefer 'N', if you don't mind."

Improbable is not impossible. [Although it's quite clear that Elle agrees with him.] However, that would also bring up the question of what the mansion wanted to change. Which would just be reversing the situation, really...

[He frowns.]

'N' is fine.

He frowns somewhat. "If we ask that, we would have to ask about why the mansion would want to change us in the first place. To better our own outlook, or for it's own survival--or for it's amusement, or to eventually drive us mad, et cetera. There are hundreds--thousands of possibilities."

N notes the frown and tilts his head. "Is there something wrong with my preferance?"
