Yes, the rumors are true: DNDR has active mods again. More about that later, when we have something useful to say. (In the meantime, don't worry: we're not planning any major changes.)
A question has come up about why some rooms are now tagged "!mod - do not repost". This affects a very small number of rooms through the game's history, and it's not about who posted them (everyone who posted them posted them with the intention of the room being fun or useful), it's about how they work:
-
Tentacle room: non-con (yes, there is going to be a no non-con-on-the-main-comm rule; since it's almost universally followed anyway, it shouldn't be a problem).
-
Werewolf event: Incidentally godmodey. Please do not allow events to affect hallways in a way that makes them actively, physically dangerous; that's the only place characters whose players don't want to participate in your plot have to pass through. We wouldn't do this as mods; we don't want you to do this as players. Events like this can still take place in rooms with the characters who want to participate winding up in them by accident.
-
Role (fandom crossover) room: DNDR is a single-fandom game. This room's ability to turn a character into someone from another fandom for 3-5 days is an attempt to bring panfandom elements in by the backdoor. We feel that there are plenty of panfandom DRs out there that DNDR players would be playing in if they wanted to.
-
Hospital room: This is by far the most innocuous room on this list. There's nothing seriously wrong with this except that the setting was more interesting (i.e., difficult to live in) without it, the room permanently changes the nature of the setting (unlike many posts, which have a brief effect and are easily avoided), and it was in conflict with the theme of the game as had been established up to that point, which is that the mansion is dangerous. However, we think it's important to note and understand that the player who posted this one was really new at the time, and was only trying to be helpful.
("The mansion is dangerous," may seem to contradict "Please don't make the hallways dangerous," but it's because hallways have traditionally been neutral territory in this setting; it's still possible to get injured in rooms or in fights with others.)
-
Euphemism room: another non-con. This room would be all right if it didn't force actual physical contact.
The problem is that in the mechanism of the way we have to label stuff, we can't edit the post itself with a note about why it shouldn't be reposted. We could just delete these rooms, but then some players would lose threads on them, and we didn't want to do that to you guys. We could reply to them, but that's just scolding the player for a room they made months ago, when potential reposting by other players is the actual issue.
So, tagging them "!mod - do not repost" is the only way we have to say "Yes, these exist in the history, but please don't repost them; IC-ly, you can't find them anymore."
There are plenty of other rooms that weren't designed well (and saw almost no play as a result), but we're leaving those alone because there's nothing intrinsically wrong with them in terms of content.
