Here's a question: Why wasn't Misa arrested and held accountable for her crimes at the end of the series? Even in the movie version, she's free to go, presumably because she doesn't have her memories.
This doesn't seem like something L would have done. Consider when he had Light locked up, and Light originally claimed that he didn't have conscious memories of killing people. To himself, L asks something along these lines: "Does he actually think having no memories of it will get him off the hook?"
Misa's no victim when it comes to her body count. She initiated killing a ton of people before she ever met Light, and when she did, offered herself to be Kira's tool. After all, she's passionately pro-Kira. She was doing all of the killing when Light couldn't risk being seen - she's possibly killed more people than he has.
So why was Misa given no consideration after Light's downfall? Do you think not having memories of murdering makes you innocent? If Light had lost his memories of being Kira and was again "good!Light" (for lack of better word describing his much more kindly demeanor during Yotsuba arc), would he also have been free to live a normal life?
