It was something about the way she licked her spoon.
It was going to be another one of those nights - another one of Misa’s unsuccessful attempts to lure him into having sex with her. But something about her mannerisms that night… Light was intrigued. Comforted, even. Somehow… damned if he knew why.
She looked up at him adoringly as he leaned over her on the bed, his face mostly expressionless except for a vague hint of amused delight. He entered her, slowly moving inside of her, watching confidently as she gave him a grateful smile and her eyes rolled back in bliss. He closed his eyes and grinned; she was putty in his hands, and he was quite pleased with himself.
But when he opened his eyes again, he saw that her expression had changed. Her gaze looked somehow lifeless, and her jaw was slack. She no longer appeared as if she were living a sensual fairy tale; it was very clearly raw, uninhibited want, and she let out an uncharacteristically low moan.
“You’re damn good, I’ll give you that,” she muttered. Her tone had lost its signature sweet, feminine inflection, and the pitch was lower. She sounded almost androgynous.
Light frowned. The hell? As if she ever thought any different… “Misa, just stop talking.”
She grinned and let out a monosyllabic chuckle. “Misa… yes. Well, I believe you can let go of any notions that you’ll continue to address me as such tonight.”
“Misa, what-you’re not making any sense-”
In an instant, Misa had him pinned beneath her in a single, swift movement. She straddled his hips; he was still inside her, but his libido had diminished somewhat. She leaned closer to him to speak.
“You may stop calling me that, now. It’s me, Light-kun. It’s L.”
Light bolted upright, his eyes burning in absolute fury. “You bitch, the NERVE of you…” The mere suggestion cut him deeply, and out of sheer instinct, he raised his palm to strike her.
She blocked the attack. She clutched his wrist and looked down at him pathetically. “Really, Light-kun? Hitting your girlfriend? I thought you were better than that.” She let his arm drop to the bed and flexed her fingers. “Misa is stronger than I gave her credit for…” She folded her arms. “But honestly, I wouldn’t imagine her to have the amount of training in self-defense that I do… please don’t place the blame on her. I’m sure by now you can tell it’s me.”
That blank stare. No one else in the world ever looked at him like that. Light’s expression transformed from rage to terror. “Get… get out, you’re dead, you can’t… for God’s sake it’s written, there’s nothing after death, you can’t even-”
“Light-kun, you’ve convinced shinigami to lie for you… did you ever think that one may have lied while creating the rules? To make you think that there would be no consequences for murder after death, and see just how far you would go?” L’s spirit stopped itself. “I probably have said too much already. The point stands - I’m here.”

Misa’s lips smiled. “Well, for one, I’d been wanting to get in touch with you for quite some time… but what with getting… lost in the moment, I suppose? Misa’s body and soul were at their most vulnerable, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to come and chat.” Misa’s body leaned forward, causing Light to back away from his previous sitting position and lie down. She gave him a long, slow lick along a vein in his neck. “Not to mention, all that time we spent together, we never did anything.”
Light let out a high, reluctant and confused moan. “Ryuuzaki…”
“Ah, you’re catching on.”
“Ryuuzaki, stop.”
Misa blinked, and for a moment her voice returned to normal, and she looked bewildered. “Light… why are you talking about him - what did I just say?”
Light jumped. “Misa. Misa, God, stay, don’t let him…”
Misa’s brow furrowed, and her tone was flat again. “Don’t let me what? Come back? Misa is putting up quite the fight, but it’s nothing I can’t handle.” Her voice sighed contentedly, glancing down. “At least you seem to be in better spirits than when I first arrived.”
Light gave a small gasp of disbelief. He was terrified; how could he possibly be this hard… he scowled at her - at L. “You leave Misa the hell out of this.”
She cocked her head to the side. “Why the sudden concern for your so-called girlfriend? You’ve used her countless times to get to me; why shouldn’t I be able to do the same to get to you?”
“Ryuuzaki, leave. Just go, I-nngh…” She’d tightened herself around him.
She chuckled. “Interesting, controlling her body… getting used to what I can make it do…” She cupped her breasts, squeezing them softly, mewling. “Mmm... I’d always wanted to do that. Pity she wouldn’t have dreamed of letting me; it feels quite nice...”
Light turned his head to the side, gazing at the wall, refusing to look at her. “You’re sick... leave her alone.” A feeble attempt to mask his true intention - leave me alone.
She shrugged. “She stopped trying to fight me off... that’s unlike her. Looks like she’s beginning to enjoy it. Now the only thing left is for you to enjoy it as well.” L began controlling the movement of her hips.
“No.”
“Look at me.”
Light wasn’t sure why he obeyed; perhaps it was only because he was so used to cooperating with L in the past, when they were actually friends... he hated himself for slipping back into that mindset. But it was too late; he’d already looked up at Misa, and he couldn’t tear his eyes away. Misa, staring him down, L’s cold eyes glaring through hers; she was touching herself all over, moaning not as much from the already delicious sensations, but more because L wanted the thrill of mocking them both. All at once, Light was witnessing L violating Misa, Misa putting herself on display for him, and L violating Light himself. He couldn’t hold back moaning anymore; he clenched his eyes shut as he at last gave his voice freedom, unwilling to associate the sight with his pleasure.
L took advantage of Misa’s usual demeanor to mock him further, making her smile cutely and lean down to nibble his ear. “You really are catching on.”

“You want me to make you come?”
Light turned away again to indicate no, but all that came from his lips was a long, desperate “Yes...”
“Say my name.”
Light knew he wanted him to say Ryuuzaki, or L, but he would never... “Just... you’re gone, I won’t... god, just shut up...”
“Say it.” L dug Misa’s nails into Light’s shoulders.
Light didn’t know at all how to respond. He wanted to scream both of their names simultaneously, fuck, it was so good - but as he came, he could only yell unintelligibly, strained, random syllables weaving into each other as he shot scorching hot seed into Misa’s body.
Misa’s voice grunted; both Light and L had brought her body to climax, and her eyes widened in awe as L reacted to how it felt, and just how long it lasted, feeling Light spill inside.
After regaining composure, L spoke through her for the last time. “...That’ll do. Nice to see you again, Light-kun. Goodbye.”
Gasping, Light looked up at her with terror-stricken eyes, and slowly, Misa’s expression began to mirror his own.
She removed her hands from his shoulders, horrified at the small flecks of his blood on her fingernails. Tears welled up in her eyes. “Light...”
Light’s breath returned to him, and he reached up to touch her frantically, making sure it really was her. “Misa... Misa...” He frowned at her harshly. “Why... couldn’t you keep him away...”
Misa began to sob - that hurt her deeply. “Light, I tried so hard... I had no idea what was going on, all I knew was that he was there, and... and I could feel you, perfectly... and I couldn’t think straight... I should have been on my guard more, I’m so sorry...” She fell upon him, crying, her tears wetting his bare chest.
Nothing made sense. Nothing that night made any sense, and so Light did not bother to question himself as his grip on Misa tightened. It was really her; he was gone, like he should have been this whole time... his fear was beginning to subside, but he could still hear Misa’s traumatized sobs. As indifferent as his affections towards her were, he couldn’t help but feel pity. She was on his side, and she’d done nothing wrong. Someone like her never deserved that. And L’s words echoed in his ears: “Please don’t place the blame on her.”
“It’s... not your fault.” The words slipped from his mouth in a quick mumble.
Misa’s breathing calmed; that was the greatest and possibly the only comfort she could ever hear right then. Vague bits of the events that had just occurred started to return to her mind, piecing themselves together into something that was slightly easier to follow.
Her sobbing stopped altogether. “Light...”
“What?” His voice was cold.
“You never said his name.”
Light did not respond; he froze. He didn’t want to think about it... he did not want to allow the possibility of regret. Everything was the way it should have been, at least, it was the best it could have been in such a situation.
But it was true, Misa mused; he never fully acknowledged L’s presence by giving him that privilege. He’d still made love to her.
And just that small fact was all Misa needed to know.

HOLY MINDFUCK, AAAAAAH.
This was AWESOME.
It was hot and confusing and a little creepy and at the same time it put tears in my eyes! BUT IN A GOOD WAY.
and and and: All at once, Light was witnessing L violating Misa, Misa putting herself on display for him, and L violating Light himself. Oh my God the image in that, so disturbingly hot.
Author!Anon, I would like to give you a really big hug. xD

And, poor Misa.
But, it's also very hot. L coming back just to screw with Light, a mindfuck and physical fuck at once.
And, I love how you suggested that maybe a shinigami isn't a reliable source of information about the afterlife, especially one that tends to mislead Light for fun.

2. I really enjoyed the ending. First of all, he was genuinely nice to Misa, which is a rare event. Secondly, as much as I adore seeing L getting the better of Light, it was rather satisfying to see that he didn't give in to him on that one aspect. No matter how Light felt, he didn't actually say the name, and Misa got the satisfaction of knowing that.
