Light sat in the chair.
“Aww,” the girl said in sarcastic disappointment, her voice dripping with mock sadness, “don’t you want to join me over here?”
“There isn’t enough room with you sitting like that,” Light said curtly.
“Mmm,” Mello said, rolling her head back onto the cushions and giving him a sidelong look, half-seductive half-threatening, while her hand slid oh-so-slowly into her pocket. “Now isn’t that a shame? I guess we’ll just have to get cosy.”
Light kept himself rigidly still, imagining her lithe fingers running over the barrel of the gun. “What do you want from me?”
She sent him a sultry look from under her lashes. “Why don’t you come over here and find out?”
Light went. He had no choice. He had always disliked aggressively sexual women - they were even less bearable than overly masculine men - but the image of the gun was burned into his mind and he could not stop himself from thinking about it. While he doubted Mello had the guts or the recklessness to shoot him right here, she was certainly willing to display the weapon in public, and she had surprised him more than once already. Besides, maybe it would be best to humour her a little. For now.
As soon as he sat beside her, the girl shifted herself closer to him and drew her left arm around his neck. “There now, this is nice, isn’t it?” she purred, superficially relaxed - but her fingers were digging into his upper arm, keeping him pinned to her side. Her other hand moved around to slide up his thigh in a drawn-out murmur of leather on cotton, making him squirm in indignation: it was the sort of thing a particularly sleazy man might do to his girl, and having it done to him in public was shameful. Mello took her hands away in order to briskly tug her gloves off with her teeth, and when her right hand returned it seized Light between his legs.
He let out a shocked hiss: the hold was tight, almost painful, but it sent a shiver through his body and he could feel himself beginning to harden under the pressure she was placing on the most unlikely places. “You want to do this here?” he muttered.
“Why are you so surprised?” Mello murmured as she ran her lips along his neck. “When you act like you’re so damn irresistible…”
He twisted away from her, wounded pride throwing up anger in its wake, but she caught his arms in a sudden bruising grip and yanked them behind his back - and he felt coolness encircle his wrists, followed by a sickeningly familiar metallic sound.
“What the -?”
Mello walked her fingers up his arm. “Just taking precautions, sweetie,” she said. “Nothing personal.”
“You -”
Before he could even conclude the insult, she had tugged him around to face her once more, making him wince as the cuffs dug into his flesh. “Lie down,” she commanded. “On your back.”
“You really want to -”
“Listen honeybunch,” she hissed, abruptly vicious. “The more you fight this, the more attention we’ll attract and the more people will see what I do to you, so it’s really in your best interests to do what I say. It might just stop me from shooting you, too. Now, on your back.”
Light drew his lips back in a snarl. Much as he hated to admit it, she was probably right. Already he could see, out of the corner of his eye, that they were gathering a crowd: listless people staring snickering and unconcerned as Mello slammed a hand into his chest, forcing him over onto his back, before crawling up over him. “You ever eat a girl out?”
He was seething, clenching his fists where they lay trapped beneath his own body - whether to maintain bloodflow or to express his fury, it really didn’t matter. “No,” he muttered.
“No?” she echoed, widening her eyes in astonishment. “I don’t envy your girlfriend. Still, a smart boy like you, you’ll learn.”
