THE BIG PINK: A Brief History of Love

Sep 15, 2009 20:35

Really loving A Brief History Of Love, the debut long-player from 4AD's The Big Pink. I really love the jacked-up Mary Chain / Bunnymen vibe, the throbbing rhythms, the irresistable pop dynamics, the vague hints of Scottish balladry (albeit high octane street-tested and thoroughly streamlined), Robbie Furze's heartthrob cockney narrative vocals, backed by ghostly jukebox wails and Curve-worthy guitars.
This record is another landmark opener for the label that gave us Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Pixies and so many more, and anyone who passes on it is denying themselves a real treat, i.m.o. Hands down destined to be a classic.
