Total, utter newbie here with Hotaru from Samurai Deeper Kyo, mangaverse, despite the occasional anime icons.
The short of it: he's part of a non-human race of beings who call themselves the Mibu who physically make most humans and many non-humans look like complete and utter jokes, being much faster, healthier and just plain stronger than them. They're also near immortal. He's also like a pyro/swordsman of the like, insane variety and can summon hell fire.
Mentally though, he's not so impressive. He's kind of spacey and dense most of the time, though he does have his moments of intelligence. He also has this like horribly severe brother complex that he has only started to get over. He's violent, but occasionally distracted by shiny/fluffy things and can be pretty serious.
