Just out of curiosity, but has any other muns have the problem where you say your pup is going to do one thing and they just kinda give you the finger?

ALL THE TIME. Matt Parkman is especially troublesome.

Isn't that annoying?

*points to account* This one here agreed to the restart and then decided but I don't want to forget the Nexus so he changed it on me.

*nudges this account* I can't get this fellow here to be agreeable about anything. He keeps FLYING OFF THE HANDLE when I don't want him to!

He tends to do that on the show too. I wonder if he's manic/depressive

Alec got pissy when his sister remembered the Nexus and got to go on a date with someone she had met before the restart.

Hahaha! Well, I doubt that's a proper diagnosis for him, but you're right- very nearly, I'm sure. It's no good if Matt keeps yelling at everyone else from Heroes. XDDD

But yeah!

I understand- it's hard to keep the characters under control sometimes. XD

It could be "I read you mind and I don't want to think about the slashy stuff"?

Most of the time.

*LAUGHS*

Well, I didn't think that before, but now that's what I'm going to be stuck thinking. XD

And hm, it seems like some people might be misinterpreting your question a little bit. It's weird to think about a character not getting 'out of control,' in the sense that sometimes your characters act ways or do things that you really don't agree with, but it's not as if you can change or control it and feel like you're still playing the character. That's how I read it, at least, and it's happened to me- heaven knows Matt's said some things before that make me go "EGADS, boy."

I actually think it's very interesting. Admittedly the question was rather vague, so I suppose it's my fault for it getting all the different interpretations.

*points down response to Hawk_shay's post*

I think that's more what I was getting at.

...I hate to break it to you, but that's all your own conscious decision-making. Since, you know, your pup isn't actually real? And is just a fictional character that you, the person at the keyboard, are dictating the actions of through a series of developmental events and established characteristics/traits? (That you, yourself, also made up.)

And if your character 'decided' to 'not forget the Nexus', that doesn't mean he's got a mind of his own. It means that you realized partway down a particular characterization path, the retcon or whathaveyou was a seemingly bad idea or difficult in some way, or things just weren't working out the way you imagined. Not him. You.

Because PROTIP: our characters are not real.

That's what I meant. But put it in different terms.

Yeah, in the terms that you're crediting them with their own decision-making ( ... )

I think I was mostly amused with an "Oh Fuck" sort of situation where I realized that where I was going wasn't where I thought I was. I also realize that my original question was rather vague and that was horrible of me.

Phrasing it all in a way like they have a mind of their own, or that you have to run ideas past them for their approval or disapproval, frankly, is weird and seems to be a frightful IC/OOC blur. Not to mention a sort of cop-out in the way of, "Oh, that horrible action or characterization you just called me on? Oh, that wasn't me, that was my character being his usual imp-like self and doing his own thing! Teehee, he's a big silly like that and I apologize."This is very true and the blurring of IC/OOC can be very dangerous. You need to take responsibility for every action that your character takes, especially in RPing. You can't take actions against another player and then say "Well that's what the character would do" mostly because people will call you on it. They'll see that it's not how the character usually acts ( ... )
