Gems of the Silver Marches Updates #5

When we last left our intrepid band of adventurers, the had managed to follow King Mith Barak the Clanless's silver cord through the Astral Plane into the Outlands. Once in the Outlands, however, the trail of the silver cord had vanished, so the PCs decided to make their way to Sigil to see if they could find any information on either King Mith Barak or his suspected alter ego of Barakith the Traveler. After a few minor trials, the group managed to find itself in Sigil, the City of Doors.

When the group traveled through a portal from the gate-town of Plague-Mort to Sigil, they found themselves in the section of the city cheefully title "The Hive" - the absolute poorest, worst section of the city, where a denizen would just as likely knife you as look at you. The PCs carefully picked their way towards the Clerk's Ward, where the did a little shopping, both for equipment and information. Here, the found hints at another possible identity for King Mith Barak - an elf by the name of Mithbar that was a champion of Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon. It was also suggested that more stories concerning this individual were told by bards in the Twin Libraries Realm of Thoth and Oghma.

The group decided to visit both the Twin Libraries and the Platinum Dragon's Realm to find out what they could about this individual. Imish, Garnet, Valin and Crystal would travel to the Seven Mounting Heavens of Celestia to visit Bahamut's Realm, while Nox, Onyx and Gaelreith would visit the Twin Libraries to find what information they could. They would first all travel together to the Twin Libraries so that Garnet could obtain a component that would allow her to Plane Shift back to the Twin Libraries. Once they arrived, Garnet sought out and was given an item which would grant her the ability to Plane Shift back to the Twin Libraries once her group was finished with visiting Bahamut's Realm and her little group left for Celestia. Onyx and Gaelreith sought out information about Mith Barak the Clanless a.k.a. Barakith the Traveler a.k.a. Prince Mithbar, Champion of the Platinum Dragon. Nox, meanwhile, decided to delve once more into Knowledge Kobold Was Not Meant To Know and seek out the Forbidden Lore the library surely kept somewhere...

Onyx and Gaelreith found, without much difficulty, a bard willing to tell the tale of Prince Mithbar and the Devil Dragon. According to the tale, Prince Mithbar, an elven champion of Bahamut the Platinum Dragon, had returned to the Outer Planes a little over a decade ago when news reached him that his arch-enemy, a Devil Dragon champion of Tiamat, the evil Queen of Dragonkind, had resurfaced after centuries. The battle the two ranged across several of the Outer Planes and even into the Nine Hells of Baator itself. In the Nine Hells, the Devil Dragon forced Mithbar into the River Styx, whose waters cause all those touched by them to forget. Mithbar would have drowned there had he not been pulled from the river and saved by a beautiful red-headed elven woman, who was actually the Devil Dragon in disguise. Mithbar, forgetting who and where he was, as well as who the red-headed elven woman likely was, knew only gratitude for the woman who saved him from drowning. They left Baator together and Mithbar quickly fell in love with the beautiful elven woman who called herself Ruby. They now live outside the great Ribcage in a little cottage as man and wife. Many of those who knew the truth of Mithbar and the Devil Dragon have sought to break the spell "Ruby" holds over him, with no success. Mithbar still retains his legendary abilities as a swordsman, even if he has forgotten the truth of who he is, and defends the honor of the woman he loves with deadly ferver.

When Onyx inquired as to how to cure the amnesia-inducing effects of the River Styx, she found there was only one known cure - a plant called Desert's Night Blossom which only grows in an oasis found in the Realm of Set - the Mulhorondi/Egyption God of Evil, Destruction, Drought, Night, Rot, Snakes, Hate, Betrayal, Evil Magic, Ambition, Poison and Murder. Desert's Night Blossom itself is a poison which induces rage in those who ingest it, but if eaten by someone suffering from amnesia induced by the River Styx, it will restore their memories, should they live through the poison's effects. The two main problems would be obtaining the plant in the first place (Set is not known for his generosity) and convincing Mith Barak to injest the poisonous plant.
