That's right. This guy. My dream became reality last night when I won the competition to throw out the first pitch at the NU day at Wrigley game on May 8th. I don't remember if I wrote about it last year or not when my friend Mike won it, but I decided that my goal would be to win it this year. The competition basically works by sending in an application saying why you want to throw out the first pitch. I was one of 8 people selected to then compete at a local bar last night.
The bar competition has 3 rounds. The first round was a talent competition, which I played guitar and sang "Go Cubs Go" for my talent. They then use crowd response to eliminate 3 of the contestants. After that was trivia about the Cubs and Northwestern to eliminate 2 more. And then the final round they asked why you wanted to throw out the first pitch. Basically the night went better than I could have imagined. Last year Mike just destroyed the competition in everything, I was just hoping to win. But my friends were awesome and tons of people came out in support. I had easily the biggest cheering section, so it didn't matter how I did. The trivia part I was able to dominate the other people for the most part as well. What was great was that my friends were smart enough to start cheering for the other contestants who had larger fan bases, so they basically helped decide who the final 3 were. When it came down to the final question it wasn't even close, I only got through about 2 sentances of my reasons for why I wanted to throw out the firt pitch before I got drowned out by cheers. Basically it was a dream come true, I even got tossed up in the air by everyone at the end. I know it sounds corny and stuff, but it was an amazing night. It was so great that everyone came out to support me, and I was basically so happy that it was surreal.
This is definately a more positive entry than my last. Being sick sucked and it lasted about 2 weeks before I finally started to feel a lot better. But I'm all good now, so I can enjoy my last few weeks at NU.
I still have no idea what I'm going to be doing next year. Basically I have no job yet. I am going to work for a couple months this summer on the research that I've been working on and live in my apartment. But after that I have no idea. My lease runs out at the end of August, so its all pretty open after that.
Also Nick Ciarimboli is going to sublet from one of my roommates this summer which is pretty sweet. I haven't hung out with him much in the last 4 years, so it'll be cool to live with him for a summer.
