SGA Renewed for Season Five? Aww, man!

NOTE: This entry contains general spoilers for "Stargate Atlantis." The spoilers do wander all over the place, so do read with caution.

Okay, so I already mentioned how I'm not exactly fond of the new SGA. Well, it seems that New SGA has been renewed for a fifth season. I am well aware of the fact that this makes me a "bad ( Read more... )

Found your post through sganoticeboard.

I agree with some of what you said there. As much as I like SG-1, I didn't want Sam to move over, let alone to have her run the place. As much as I may have liked her on SG-1, I want her gone from Atlantis ASAP. I didn't like Carson's death (made all the worse by the fact that I actually *liked* the episode until that happened) and I absolutely *hate* the fact that they've got rid of Torri. Elizabeth's one of my favourite characters.

On the other hand, I certainly did not want SGA to be cancelled! I still watch the show, and I expect to still enjoy it even with the irritations. The first two eps of the new season I really liked (as much as I hated Elizabeth leaving, the Replicator ep was brilliant). I like the new doctor - as long as I don't think of her as Carson's replacement, she's fine. Basically as annoyed as I may be by all the changes, I'd rather have an SGA with some faults than no SGA at all...

...my main problem with the changes, btw, is the lack of explanation. I mean, Richard Dean Anderson leaves SG-1, we know it's because he wants to spend more time with his child. Other times, characters are clearly got rid of for plot purposes, or perhaps because they're not popular or the dynamic's not working right...

But what's the reason here? Why get rid of a character who was made a regular because he was so popular? Why get rid of the leading lady? I haven't heard even a *rumour* that either actor wanted to leave. In fact, I've heard no rumours at all about the reason. So why?

Yes! It's that, too! They never even say why they're getting ride of someone. I read and listened to a few of Paul McGillion interviews, and it was abundantly clear that he wanted to stay. He sounded broken up about the move to kill him off, especially since he thought he was being called into the office to be congratulated on the good job he was doing.

I'm asking the same questions, hon. I really wish that I knew. : - /

I agree with you about Sam. I adored her on SG-1, but everything's so off now that she's moved over. I liked "Sunday," too! I mean, liked it in the way that it was set up to be one of my favorite SGA episodes of all time. I didn't realize how big a fan of Elizabeth I was until I saw episodes like "The Real World" and "Adrift." Of course, the announcement of her being written out helped, too.

As cranky as I am, I might just continue watching the show. I don't know where I'm going to be by the time we get to season five, but things look iffy right now. I really did like the episodes I've seen so far, for the most part. The irritations are pretty darn big to ignore, but I know what you mean.

Also, LOL @ your icon.

When I first heard about "Sunday", the concept sounded fantastic. A relaxing day off, when a bomb suddenly explodes. So, first we get to see bits of the characters' lives we hadn't really seen before, and then we get some good drama.

Then, of course, they went and spoiled it all by killing off Carson. And in pretty much the stupidest way possible (tumours??)

I love my icon :) I can't remember who made it (it'll be credited on my userpics if you care to check) but s/he made a whole load of different ones in the same style.

Ditto. I got all excited about the episode, because that's the type of fiction I read. However, since I already knew that Carson was going to be killed, I put two-and-two together before I watched it.

And yes, it was stupid, no matter how hard they tried to make Carson into a hero before they did him in. Martin Gero derseved to be sporked for that.

OOO!! I shall have to go see who that is. Maybe s/he has some Ronon/Rodney/Carson/Elizabeth/Radek ones!

Well, I also have a Rodney one from the same group *points*. I remember there being lots of other good ones, too.

I'm somewhat of an icon collector, lol. I have loads of the things, some made by me & others picked up from various people on LJ.

OOO!!! I will have to look into that. I went by the maker's journal, but I didn't spot the entry yet.

Me, too. That's why I'm so glad that IJ doubles the icon spaces that LJ offers. = D

Oh, we totally need some good ICONS, season 1-3 characters ONLY. I'd LOVE a team icon that says something to the effect, 'OTT: ONLY TRUE TEAM'

YES!!! I would snag that icon right off if someone made it.

Any graphics makers passing by?
