Yesterday, I hung out with one my friends and noticed a book on her table called, Fast Food Nation.  She said she had to read it for a class called Family Ecology.

I opened the book to a random page and it contained a discussion about the history of franchising.  One sentence stated that General Motors started the franchise movement in1898.  Because it lacked the capital to hire a sales force, GM began issuing franchises for car dealerships.

Of course GM lacked capital in 1898!  But, I'm not going to tell you why.  You gotta figure it out on your own.

Modern non-fiction authors really piss me off.  It makes one wonder what other facts in that book were fabricated.  I just always thought editors were supposed to be quality driven people.  A lot of companies edit for politics now-a-days, and there may be legitimate marketing reasons for it.  The book got a lot of blurbs from leftist newspapers.  If the columnists are leftists they may only be willing to review leftists books, and reviewed books sell better.

Last night, I found out libraries and schools are exempt from sales tax.  So I'm not breaking the law like I thought I was.  But, selling copies to schools has led to another marketing opportunity.

On the 23, of this month, I have to sell copies in person at south lake high school.  I also have to go back for their parent teacher conference night later this spring.  South Lake thinks I could do 1,000 copies there, but I doubt it.  I'm purusing agreements with other michgan high schools.  And will have to pay sales tax on these sales.

But, despite all of this success, production of new material grinded to a halt christmas eve, and has not restarted.  I'd really like to start hammering away at main street again, but I don't have the shiny feelings right now that story requires.

Even though I embrace the toyota production system, sometimes I'm afraid I'll end up like william durant and other times I'm worried I'll end up like david buick.
