Don't ever let the weather fool you. It seems like a wonderful day outside, full of the promises that a day of summer is supposed to bring. I however am not fooled. I know that the minute I go outside it's going to be FREAKIN' HOT and it will cause me to instantly melt into a pool of goo... well, that and my nameless neighbor outside who is gardening without a shirt... just noticed that he has dyed his hair blonde... trust me while this sounds like it might be a good thing, it's not. Kinda like a Monet painting, what looks good from a distance really doesn't up close! When you can see plumber's crack from my bedroom window and he is acrossed the street... I suddenly have the overwhelming urge to close the blinds! But I digress.
Now that I have time to write, and my brain is not suffering from the pressure cooking it got at the faire, I can post my thoughts about the event itself.
I truly hope that the event does not move to April like has been proposed. Rather, I hope that it moves to early September, so that hopefully it will assist with the heat issues as well as not be in direct competition with the county faire. Our schedule is fast becoming beyond full. We could not handle another event in April, what with the seven weekend run of Corona and Tulare right in the middle.
Otherwise, minus the heat - the faire overall was great. Supposedly with an Italian theme, but I counted only three Italians on Saturday, and two of them where in my group! That did not detract from the faire though, and I honestly do not believe that the patrons cared very much.
Oh Gods I just looked up and saw MAN BOOBIES! Okay... closing the blinds now!
Stop. Gouging out my eyes... okay, well at least trying to ignore the blinding reality...
Okay, continuing... Saturday, we had a good day - I handed out favors of very large ubber-sparkly rings to my court, and brought up a whole lot of historical stuff that I think went over most people's heads. I gave a letter of marque to the pirates acrossed the way, so now she carries a letter of marque from both the French and the English. Then I knighted a really cool person we met awhile ago at the disaster that was the Carson City Faire. I almost got her to cry... tehehehe. I knighted her because I had heard that in all of her years of doing faire, it had never happened, and while she was getting knighted at the Golden Gate event, it was by a group and not by the monarch. Couldn't help myself. Had to do it.
I also gave a lettre du patronage to a wonderful vendor called "The Flying Skwirl" ~ and I named them the Official Purveyor of Devil Duckies. They sell the cutest rubber duckies with devil horns in a variety of colours... so anyhow, we then bobbed over to the encampment of White Eagle, and chatted with the Polish Princess, aka Marti, who talked me into possibly doing more faires up north now... one of which she needs a more interactive court for (i.e. Golden Gate) and the other of which she needs a King for (i.e. Sonora) so I am rather pleased and humbled that we are looked upon so postively from a faire promoter that I respect a lot.
The evening we had our typical faire drama - someone said this, another said that, I was in the middle of it. Killed it as quickly as possible, went to dinner, and came back to site. Stayed up until about 3:30AM talking to Marti about these events she wants us for and what exactly she wants us to do there. I am actually looking forward to it. However right now it's all about the money... I warned her fairly that we do not care about getting payed to play - we do however would like reimbursement for travel, because that is a LONG distance for most of us to drive. She totally understood (whew!) and so now I am working on getting us up there for the Golden Gate faire.
Sunday was a bit lower in energy, I think because of the heat. While it was not has hot as the previous day, it was still pretty warm. I gave another letter of marque to our neighbors the Scottish Mercenaries Galbraith. We had Mass, in which I seriously pissed off the POP (princess of Poland) in character, making all kinds of snarky remarks and such. Good fun. Gifts were given at repast, and I think the two most memorable were the key chain given to Mary/Queen Eleanore with the proviso that this was for another time and place, "I wanted to conquer the world, but I was distracted by a sparkly!". Then of course the Pope on a Rope given to Doug, who was playing Clement VII. Tehehehehehe. The rest of the day was kinda "bleh" because of the oppresive heat. I finally couldn't bear seeing my poor members in their velvets and silks waisting away, so I asked that we be allowed to dress down an hour earlier. Bill, the Entertainment Director, came over personally and told us it was okay. We exited, and got things packed in a remarkable amount of time, and I think we were completely done with tear-down no later than 7PM. It was cool!
There are a lot of things that I would like for the next time we do a northern event. I am seriously considering a seperate set that can be stored with the members up there so that way we do not have to tow the trailer from here all the way up there. I also realized that I wanted our set to be slightly bigger... I want a seperate area for the kitchen, and I want a seperate King's Chamber. Things for me to work on in the off-season, besides Corona building... LOL.
Now I am kinda also wondering though if moving slightly further north isn't a good idea. I am kinda feeling like maybe the move down here wasn't such a great thing... I dunno. Have to think on it some more.
