Rest Easy

One of the horses I've given a home to has died quietly last night.

She laid down yesterday and could no longer get up, and really wasn't trying too hard or stressing over it. I went out multiple time and propped her up, gave her water and hay and grain, although I knew she'd never get up again. She was alert and calm, not seeming to be in pain or discomfort. I had doubts that she'd survive the night. As of about 5:30 this morning, she has stopped breathing. Rest quietly girl.

I gave her a home at the request of a friend where those who had her had come upon circumstances that they felt they couldn't properly provide for her. They had rescued her from a slaughter house many years ago, and she's produced 2 foals since then. So with a sadness I know that she lived a long time after that initial rescue, and I was able to give her a home for her to live out the rest of her life.

To those that had her, I'm sorry I've not called, but I've lost your number. :(
I will try to get it through a mutual friend today.
