Okay, really, honestly, i will update EVERYDAY.

From now on i will update on what i do everyday for the rest of the summer. check early check often.

Lets start with what im doing. I currently do research with my professor at school on spiroplasma (bacteria) which have been found in crazy dead peoples brains after biopsies (also believe this is what now causes mad cow disease). I wont get into details but we are trying to find a gene specific to them so they can develop a quick test to run for detecting them.

Anyways i basically grow these....

Then centrifuge them into a tiny ball, and extract their dna.

Then i waste ALOT of schools money using expensive polymerase to ampify the gene we are looking for by putting it in a machine that cycles the same experiment over and over for about 40 times. I sit and wait, for 3 long hours.

Then i run it on this gel to see if the genes were amplied.

And most of the time this 7 hour process does not work and i just rinse and repeat.

Oh and theres really big freezers at school to keep samples in that are -60 degrees celcius. Which by my calculations is -76 degrees Fahrenheit . And when asked to move samples from one freezer to another causes instant pain and burning. Tomorrow we'll see if i cant put a picture on here if my samples work for once. Oh and exciting pictures of NC too come.
