Oh my! Pominville's gonna have to open a Planned Parenthood center!

Not that he scored last night or anything, I just believe that line is hilarious. The good thing is, the Sabres are still alive! I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but John, I hope your beard is still intact :) I also find myself endlessly amused by Rick Jeanneret and learned that he has a wiki site, with a list of all his wacky calls and nicknames. Schweet. I do miss Buffalo around playoff time, its true.

But, here's the other thing I was planning on writing: a list of why I love New York City. I always plan on writing weird shit down that I see, but this morning's glimpse of weird has propelled me onward, and so:
The Top 10 Reasons Why I Love New York City
as follows.

10. Just about everything is 24 hours. The tanning salon is open 24 hours, for no discernable purpose. But I like knowing that if I wanted to go tanning at 4am, I totallly could.
9. Free transfers on the subways
8. Getting lost in and/or being genuinely terrified of places like New Jersey or Connecticut is widely accepted and encouraged
7. The prices of just about everything may keep rising, but you can still get a slice for a buck-fifty.
6. Coffee carts
5. Genuinely gorgeous people to look at wherever you go. This is also connected with the phenomenon I like to call
4. "The Look." You might not ever stop to talk to any of the people with whom this look happens, but just connecting eyes as you're walking to the train/bus/wherever  is enough to put me in a good mood for the rest of the day
3. The ubiquity of sports bars, diners, and convenient stores- for all of my sporting, beer drinking, greasy food eating, and smoking needs
2. Central Park, Union Square, Madison Square, Washington Square, Tomkins Square, Riverside Park- anything goes

And here is the weird glimpse that inspired this list- The #1 Reason Why I Love NYC (at least today) is
1. The fact that this morning in front of Sotheby's auction house at 8am, there was a man dressed in full Chiquita Banana Lady regalia- complete with a dyed beard- calmly having a conversation with two older women, presumably about something like the weather or whatnot. At 8am. The Draq Queen Chiquita Banana Lady. On the Upper East Side. Only in New  York.
