Martin finding independence with Deedee was this nice, uplifting moment. I love how this story bounces from transcendent highs to tragic lows, giving it the sense of a true biographical tale.
Naming Martin's first love "Sam" was incredibly effective. I thought it would be Samantha, so in a way I was as blind to his gender as Martin was--and equally stunned when the truth was revealed, sharing his experience of frantically reordering reality. Martin's first serious boyfriend--I kind of wanted to kill him. The fact that Martin went a little nuts is understandable and strangely realistic. The one part that felt off to me was Danny and Martin's first meeting, where Martin decides he dislikes Danny and then opens up to him in a very sentimental way. After that, though, it was fun watching them fall in love, especially Danny as he struggles to deal with something he never planned.
Again, a lovely, lovely story with many memorable moments. Thank you so much for sharing it!
