How does it work?
Pick and prompt and write! Whatever inspires you. You can write for one of them or all three of them. You can write multiple response to one prompt. Be creative and have fun with the prompt, you can take it wherever you want. Basically, it's a free-for-all designed to get you writing about these characters as much as possible. :) And if you want more suggestions or would like some more guidelines to make it a bit more challenging, feel free to
ask!
I'd also like to note that fanart and fanmixes are more than welcome as submissions. Fanart can be anything from a manip to a piece of original art, the only thing we ask is that people don’t submit icons.
It can be any length (unless otherwise specified in the rules), from drabble to novel, and once you’ve finished it, post it here with the heading:
Challenge #0 Response: Fic Length (One-Shot/Series/Other?): Fic Title
And after the month is done, all the people who participated will get shiny banners (and possibly other nifty things depending on how generous your mods are feeling).
In summary: pick prompt --> write something --> post here --> get shiny banner!
Edited: Challenge responses have now been posted below.
February will be the lyrics challenge month, and an additional challenge in the spirit of the upcoming holiday.
You are free to use the lyrics as you see fit. All lyrics from the song are acceptable; excerpts are only posted here to give you a flavor of the song. You can use the words to loosely inspire, you can quote bits, you can write drabbles based on specific lines, you can make fanart that incorporates the words with images... really, just about anything goes. Same with Challenge #7. It can be about Valentine’s Day or it can be about something completely different that just incorporates the general theme. You’re encouraged to be as creative as you desire :) All characters and pairings from DLM are acceptable for these challenges.
The Challenges
Challenge #4: Nothing Better (Postal Service)
I feel I must interject here you’re getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself,
With these revisions and gaps in history.
Nothing Better
Will someone please call a surgeon
Who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart
That you’re deserting for better company?
I can’t accept that it’s over...
I will block the door like a goalie tending the net
In the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry
So just say how to make it right
And I swear I’ll do my best to comply
Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together
I feel I must interject here you’re getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself
With these revisions and gaps in history
So let me help you remember.
I’ve made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear.
I’ve prepared a lecture on why I have to leave
So please back away and let me go.
I can’t my darling I love you so, oh, oh.
Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together
Don’t you feed me lines about some idealistic future
Your heart won’t heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures
I admit that I have made mistakes and I swear
I’ll never wrong you again.
You’ve got a lure I can’t deny,
But you’ve had your chance so say goodbye
Say goodbye.
Challenge #5: So Cold (Breaking Benjamin)
You’re so cold, but you feel alive
Lay your hand on me one last time.
So Cold
Crowded streets are cleared away
One by One
Hollow heroes separate
As they run
You’re so cold
Keep your hand in mine
Wise men wonder while
Strong men die
Show me how it ends it’s alright
Show me how defenseless you really are
satisfied and empty inside
That’s alright, let’s give this another try
If you find your family, don’t you cry
In this land of make-believe, dead and dry
You’re so cold, but you feel alive
Lay your hand on me one last time
[Chorus x2]
It’s alright. [x9]
Challenge #6: Eric’s Song (Vienna Teng)
And of course I forgive, I’ve seen how you live,
Like a phoenix you rise from the ashes, you pick up the pieces.
And the ghosts in the attic, they never quite leave.
Eric’s Song
Strange how you know inside me
I measure the time and I stand amazed
Strange how I know inside you
My hand is outstretched toward the damp of the haze
And of course I forgive
I’ve seen how you live
Like a phoenix you rise from the ashes
You pick up the pieces
And the ghosts in the attic
They never quite leave
And of course I forgive
You’ve seen how I live
I’ve got darkness and fears to appease
My voices and analogies
Ambitions like ribbons
Worn bright on my sleeve
Strange how we know each other
Strange how I fit into you
There’s a distance erased with the greatest of ease
Strange how you fit into me
A gentle warmth filling the deepest of needs
And with each passing day
The stories we say
Draw us tighter into our addiction
Confirm our conviction
That some kind of miracle
Passed on our heads
And how I am sure
Like never before
Of my reasons for defying reason
Embracing the seasons
We dance through the colors
Both followed and led
Strange how we fit each other
Strange how certain the journey
Time unfolds the petals
For our eyes to see
Strange how this journey’s hurting
In ways we accept as part of fate’s decree
So we just hold on fast
Acknowledge the past
As lessons exquisitely crafted
Painstakingly drafted
To carve ourselves instruments
That play the music of life
For we don’t realize
Our faith in the prize
Unless it’s been somehow elusive
How swiftly we choose it
The sacred simplicity
Of you at my side
