I have in the past decided that main abortion issue really all boils down to defining when that mass inside the womb becomes a person. Before that point, it is basically just a growth in your body. A tumor, if you will, that can be removed by elective surgery. After that point, it is a person. And persons have laws protecting them and their rights. Pretty black and white, yes?
What I did not resolve to any satisfaction, and thus a gray issue for me, was pregnancy due to rape. Mostly, I have not really put much thought towards this. Not that it isn't serious, but it is not something that occurs much in my life. I would be hard pressed to come up with someone I know who has been raped. I certainly don't know anyone who has become pregnant because of it.
[By the way, as a side issue, if anyone has a link to a breakdown on reasons for abortion, I would appreciate you passing it on.]
Anyway, that is all just background to where I am. The main point, and what I was hoping for feedback on, is I came up with a thought for reducing the problem to focus on that gray area.
Given a woman who is raped and becomes pregnant because of it. Define the point where a fetus becomes a person wherever you reasonably like. Due to body mass or other factors, the woman does not become aware that she is pregnant until after that point. Is it justifiable for the woman to have an abortion?
