Weekend Things of Note

Oct 31, 2011 13:50

Annette had her baby! Elijah is here and pretty cute (and teeny). He came three weeks early but was fine due to steroids for lung development when Annette was admitted for preclampsia a while back... forever solidifying a roid joke about how he'll one day become a Cowboys linebacker. Note to future self: Tough love = Annette and Mar telling Elijah that they'll cheer for him, but never for the Cowboys. That's some deep seated hate.

We caught up on comic book movies: Thor, Captain America, The Green Lantern, Transformers (the last one) and shooot..... what was the last one... X-Men First Class. All were as good as expected or better except Captain America. Man that was some shit CGI. I shudder to think I may have to see the "weakly" version of him again. I fell asleep at the beginning of The Green Lantern and watched it again the next day. Was pretty good. All HD, all good effects. (Note: Transformers plot line was for shit. I don't want you to be mistaken in thinking I thought it was a good movie.)

Goodwill got a windfall of the wedding spoils. There is still some stuff hiding in corners of every room but all the old versions of things we had were itemized, packed up and delivered on Saturday... and then I found a few more things to get rid of on Sunday. Sigh. Anyhow... most stuff that we're keeping has found a home. Need to make a few trips to Walmart and BBB to return duplicates, etc. Am chomping at the bit to get a few things that remain on our registry but am waiting to see if Black Friday will provide better prices.

Our dollar dance donation will be for $350 to the American Diabetes Association. What's even better is that Equal (sugar sweetener) is matching donations until November 15th, so that's super awesome. :-)

Name Change efforts: After my quarterly endocrinologist appointment, I stopped by the Social Security Administration office on Royal. Walked in, took a number from the vague and unhelpful and complicated Number system and was called quickly. I was told that they checked me in and sent me to a different area to wait a few minutes. Didn't need the paperwork I'd filled out - just the marriage license... not even my id. She handed me back my license and gave me a letter telling me I should get my new card in around 10 days.

Health: Frankly, I have ate for shit in the past month and I mean, FOR SHIT. Yeah, normally I cheat on some things but the level of crapping eating this past month has made it very hard to get back on track. I let my doctor know that I fully expect crappy numbers and didn't really feel it was worth changing my insulin counts but that I needed to get back on track.... which sounds familiar since I said nearly the same thing at my last appointment... just.... I wasn't this bad. So this weekend, instead of eating out on Saturday, we went grocery shopping and came home. That isn't to say that we didn't have BJ's chili or hotdogs or chips and dip this weekend. but... you know. At least I didn't pig out at IHOP when the opportunity presented itself.

Family: My Uncle Fermin passed away the day we got home from our honeymoon and his services were middle of the week. Sent some flowers. Have yet to call anyone :-(

BJ's mom and Keri and Stan came over Saturday to hang out. We went through the 80K pictures people sent me and we gave them their souvenirs. Was a good time.

Started the Elfster gift exchange thing for my family and everyone's already responded.

Didn't decorate for Halloween but bought the good candy to hopefully compensate. Maybe I can put out something to show that we are handing out candy but not sure if I care enough, ha! I'll be better next year.
