Snowflake - Step Four

In the middle of the twenty-third century, the world is on the brink. Following the overwhelming success of the genetic trials of the Wiedman serum, the population of men has boomed while there has been a steady decline in females. At first, it is overlooked, but with the foreseeable extinction of the human race, there is an outcry for something to be done to reverse the adverse side effects of Wiedman’s serum. Scientists, both governmentally funded and not are scrambling to be the first to find the cure.
Abram and Evan Lowendowski, a father and son team of self-funded scientists have joined the fray but are going about the cure in a unique way. Instead of focusing on genetics, which neither has a degree in; they work on a new piece of technology. After numerous failed attempts, they create the portal gun. The science and logic behind it is to create a portal to the past of future. This time travel is essential to their theories of what will solve the population problems.
As opposed to the school of thought that women must be reengineered on a genetic level, Abram and Evan think that the problem is women are simply not a hearty as they once were. So using their new invention they will bring back women from the twenty-first century. In an attempt it minimize the butterfly effect, they take women moments before their death.
After much ethical discussion with a local government official, the idea of kidnapping is banned. However, determined to go through with it, Evan goes to the twenty-first century to kidnap a woman from New York City before she freezes to death on a park bench. Only after taking her back to the future does he find out that this homeless woman was on the losing end og a battle with drug addiction.
With the help of Oryena, Sophie has to battle the withdrawal symptoms racking her body. Learning of how and why she came to the future, Sophie struggles to cope with the implications that she should be dead. Even as her relationship with Evan blooms, Sophie is drawn back to her old life. Using the invention, She struggles to get back to New York in her time. Evan is forced to go after her and save her from herself.
Bringing her back to his time, he makes sure that the invention is destroyed and can never be used again. Slowly drawing her out of her shell, Evan learns that Sophie is a lot smarter than he first thought. While helping her understand the history that has transpired since the year she died in New York, he is forced to explain why there are so many men.
Thinking upon it, Sophie asks why they are focusing on women when it is obviously something that has to do with men. Even with her naive high school education, she saw the answer that was elusive for every other scientist in the era. Armed with her idea Abram and Even begin speaking with contacts in the scientific world trying to set things right
