I'm sorry to have been gone so long, RL sucks.
I have come to you all to announce that operantly, I'm going to hell, or cease to exist when I die, pick one. I came home from work today and found this lovely little note on my door that announced that if I did not put all my faith, devotion, and belief in Jesus Christ, I'm going to hell. Don't get me wrong, I believe that Jesus did exist and was a awesome man. Let me repeat that, MAN. I don't believe that Jesus was the son of God and there is nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise. But that is beside the point. This little leaflet was asking me to essentially give up my free will and simply have faith that Jesus will make everything all better.
Is it just me or does this sound a little too much like a cult to you too? If we substitute a rock, or a tree, or a Kangaroo mouse, or Raptor Jesus, or even a rancid jug a milk for Jesus, people would think we are out of our mind. In ancient Rome, Christianity was known as the Cult of Jesus. Today it seems even more cult like. I would of course write a response to these people, but their leaflet does not provide a physical address and the web site provided does not give the opportunity for feed back. Something tells me that they are afraid of what people might actually tell them in defense.
That leads me to another point, their website is all sorts of fun and mis-information. If I had the opportunity to talk to these people I would ask them, why does Jesus have to be the son of god? Why can't he just be a man who did great things? It's clear to me in the bible that allot of things Jesus did was actually a metaphor instead of on the spot reporting of what was actually happening. History tells us that someone named Jesus did exist in that part of the world at the time, but did he actually perform these miracles? If he actually ROSE FROM THE DEAD and ascended to heaven in front of thousands of whitenesses, why didn't the historians and story tellers of the time report it. Why is the Bible the ONLY record of these miricals? Heck, we can tell you who voted how in the roman senate for a number of years but we don't have this essential info?
I'm getting off on a tangent. I guess what all this is really trying to say is, I do not like evangelists from any religion. Why can't they just leave us alone. Perhaps a better tactic is in order, maybe I should go to their homes and tell them all the great things that Venus worship,Druidism (sp?) Shaminism, Taoism, and Ancestor worship, have to offer them. I'm sure they'd treasure being shown the error of their ways.
