Isn't it weird submitting yourself for medals and awards?
*grins* not that you didn't deserve it, but I always feel kinda goofy when stuff like that comes up. (in the "you know, I deserve this award. I wish someone else would submit my name" sort of way.)
The big thing is that since I'm the dude in charge of the Honor Guard, and the next level up are all Colonels (or Lt Colonels) they don't really know the details of the organization. Hence, when I brought it up to them, they had me find a prior management Member (in my case Capt Vivian McFeeters) draft the award/citation for her (to be consistent with all other awards), have her sign it, and then route the package to the Colonel for signature.
Kinda SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for the military. Better than what I've heard form other people (who get told "GREAT JOB - go write yourself up for a decoration for me to sign"). At least in my case, I am the action officer who is supposed to write all honor guard decorations.
