The end of the semester is almost here, and what am I doing? Driving back to VA for a week to visit the family for Thanksgiving. It takes about 28 hours to drive straight through, so that's two days gone for travel. It's really important for me to get up there though, especially not knowing how things will work out with my grandma's health. Anyway, I'll get back on Monday, and the following Wednesday I have a 20 page paper and presentation due. Of course I haven't started on it. December 1st my classes will turn in their second paper for me to grade. December 5th I have a 30 page paper I haven't started and then come exams... I have to give two exams and take one. The one I take is rumored to last for 6-8 hours. Last year's group stopped to eat dinner before finishing. And in the mean time, I still have all of my everyday stuff to do, like seeing ciients (about 8 hours per week), teaching (5 hours teaching, 5-10 prep), and actually going to my classes.
So when I realized all I had coming up, what did I do? I got a second job. I'm going to be a therapist out at the juvenile jail here in town. I justhad an orientation last Thursday, and when I left, I already had 4 clients assigned. The nice things is that this job pays, versus doing my school clinical hours for free. It's not a ton of money, but it's a great experience to put on my CV, especially since I'm the only Master's student (as in, not having one yet) to be working out there. I think it will be challenging work, but hopefully really good.
So next semester I will be doing my hours at the clinic, working at my job, taking 12 hours (full time is 9 hours in grad school), teaching two classes, and doing Big Sisters. This is why I think I might be crazy... but I'll finish up my Masters in August, so that's pretty good motivation.
