I lied.
This wasn't the post I wanted to make after THE HUNGER GAMES, this is. But then the first post just got super long and I had to cut out my thoughts on the first two episodes. So here they are:
EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL. I was watching some the old episodes and the quality difference is stark. They've stepped up for Korra.
(
Episodes 1 & 2: Welcome to Republic City, Leaf in the Wind )
The "born with a college degree" analogy actually made me think of something else: the appearance of xenophobia in stressful economic situations (think Jewish people in Nazi Germany, "they took 'er jobs!" Latinos & China in the US, etc.) so there could also be a scapegoating element involved. Er, that is if the Equalists' issues were rooted in economics (and not just socio-political) though we haven't really seen that yet.
Ugh, I need Hiroshi Sato stat! Isn't he a non-bender surely doing well for himself with his cars?
I definitely need to know more about the political structure of the United Republics, especially if there's no "democratically-elected" involved. It all brings to mind how industrialization also saw the first demands for equal rights for women, black people, and other minorities. Why, for that matter, aren't pleas to the Council a more viable route of protest than underground schools for chi blockers? (No acts of terrorism yet, depending on where you think "taking away a person's bending" falls).
