First of all, is your entry public? I'd like to share this with others if that's okay?
Besides the casting, I basically agree with everything you said. I felt like they fast-forwarded through the book without the context but, yes, I did feel like they wasted a lot of time doing nothing. I don't have any hopes for the next three films so I'm probably just gonna watch it on Netflix or rent it.
I'm just highly disillusioned with Suzanne Collins. The books were so well-written, it's been hard to watch her disavow things like Katniss' olive skin. And then the movie doesn't focus on the themes she herself highlighted as the inspiration. It makes me feel like I didn't read the books correctly or something.
I need to remind myself that despite co-writing the script, maybe she didn't have as much reach into the things about the film I didn't like. But remembering how the casting went down, I'm still filled with doubts...
