Hey, an Asian drama!

I've recently started watching the K-drama You're Beautiful. What can I say? I'm a sucker for girls who dress up as boys-- to me, it's a test of acting skills since so many stars seem to get by on good looks alone. Yoon Eun Hye did it very well in Coffee Prince; Ella did it really well too, but that was because she was tomboyish to begin with. In the case of Hana Kimi (Japanese and Taiwanese versions) they talk about how she's cute, so it worked better for Maki than for Ella.

They're not very good at binding boobs though.

Anyway, the cross-dressing girl in You're Beautiful (played by Park Shin Hye) isn't really as convincing as YEH, but at this point (four episodes in) I'm watching it for other things. It's really really corny, and sometimes they bend reality too far that it kicks me out of the fantasy. But it hasn't annoyed me yet, and it can be genuinely funny at times. It's also moving pretty fast (her love interest and her love interest's rival know already) so I'm excited to see where it's going.

The story is about a girl (Go Mi Nyu) who is training to become a nun. Her twin brother (so they look alike and are in fact played by the same person) joins up with an idol band in order to search for their mom. Her twin brother (Go Mi Nam) gets into an accident so Mi Nyu is begged by their manager to sub for him for awhile. And of course, there are the three other guys in the group the main course, say the fan girls, num num:

-Tae Kyung (played by Jang Geun Seok): He's the lead singer and dresses like an American punk. I think the look fits the character of a brooding musician well, but having seen him with different hairstyles, I can see why they're going to change it. He looks good in terms of fitting the paradigm, but is not as appealing as he could be (see below). He has the standard bad temper and he's OCD to boot. :) I love the fact that he's OCD!
-Shin Woo: Can't remember who the actor is (it's his first drama) but he's hot, and has a quiet personality (since the two other members have such oversized ones-- he sort of got stiffed). He is absolutely the good next door neighbor boy who isn't going to win the girl. :( He treats her so well, though!
-Jeremy (Lee Hong Ki): He's really childish and is currently going through a crisis about his strange feelings towards Go Mi Nam. It is hilarious. And the blond hair is actually working for this guy-- good for him.

Here's the other reason why I'm watching this drama: the leads (Park Shin Hye and Jang Geun Seok) have banging chemistry.

And you can also see how cute JGS can be. It's so much fun to watch him just to try and figure out how someone can smile so innocently like that and then make such a pouty, angry face like he sports most of the time in the drama.

I also find it interesting how PSH is so sexualized in the commercial versus in the show (where she is, after all, acting like a girl being forced to pretend to be a guy).

I really hope the kiss(es?) in the drama are that hot... I am so messed up, I have watched this commercial multiple times now... music's really catchy... I hate Etude House, I really do...
