Sure its not just sticking, and thus DED? If so you can try the freezer method to try and recover data from it.

Possible, though the HDD is comparatively new. I grabbed a notebook->desktop HDD adapter at Fry's, going to see if that works. Either way, I think it's time to abandon that laptop, it's going on 6 years or so.
