I Can't Believe I Missed That
Ever go back and look at a piece of writing and realize you were soooo close to making a good connection and didn't. Or your brain was thinking things and making connections and you didn't realize what they were?
I was going through Fall Away to get another section posted to fanfiction.net this morning and just noticed something ridiculous. In the scene where Daniel is telling tales from The Odyssey and Jack decides he'd rather tell tales from the Simpsons. Dude. Homer, Homer! How did I not see that and have Jack comment on it? And the thing was, I had the bit about Jack telling Simpsons stories first. I had Daniel doing something else and in editing, I didn't like it so I thought to myself, gosh what books or stories would fit Daniel. What popped into my brain was The Odyssey. So the subconscious mind was trying to help me out, give me a joke to work with, but the conscious brain just blew right on by that. *laughs*
