Google Rocks!

What did people do before internet? And, more importantly, Google? Yes, I know there are other search engines but I swear by Google. Google is your know-it-all friend who will never look down on you. Ask him anything and you WILL get an answer. I know that if not for Google I would've went crazy in the next 5 minutes. So once again Google saved my life, or sanity, which is once and the same for me. Here is why.
Our house, like majority of houses and apartments in US, has smoke detectors. Hard-wired with the battery back-up. Once in a while the battery needs to be changed and the smoke detector informs you about it with a very insistent chirping. "Once in a while" always happens in the most inconvenient time - at 3 in the morning, or when you husband just left on a business trip and you can't reach him, or when you come back home at night tired and want nothing but a hot shower and a bed. Normally, you just change the damn battery and the smoke detector is happy for the next year or so. But not this time. Husband changed the battery in an offending detector, walked away. In a minute the beeping was back. He changed the batteries in all the other smoke detectors in the house, just to be sure. Walked away. In a minute, the beeping was back. We did everything we could've think of - taking out the batteries and putting them back in, unscrewing and screwing the detectors back on, all the ritual dances and yet, the beeping would stop only long enough for us to get back to whatever we were doing before. So finally, I did what I always do - I googled the problem. And sure enough, the very second link had a detailed "how to" on fixing beeping smoke detectors: 1. Change the batteries (done); 2. Press the test button to reset it (tried, almost lost the ability to hear in my right ear, the beeping resumed as soon I got my hearing back); 3. unscrew the detector (yeah, again), spray it with the compressed air, and screw back on. And Voila! It worked!!! Once again, Google saved the day! Thank you, Google (and the "how-to" people).
