Not-so-jetlagged in Edinburgh

Jun 26, 2008 11:08

It's 11AM, and we're getting ready to explore the town, hopefully to get to the castle.  Ann, Fiona's mom, has been a peach, picking us up at the airport and feeding us dinner.  She's got a lovely ground-floor flat, gardens front and back and lots of antique interior stuff.  We'll get some pix, of course.

Heathrow was only half as bad as advertised.  We waited half an hour for a gate, after delaying takeoff from Seattle to hit the airport at our designated landing time, but got a boost from the jetstream, meaning we ended up at the gate on time.  A long bus ride later between terminals 3 and 5, we went thru customs, etc.  Same security, etc. as the US, though they didn't take our fingerprints, only pictures.  We chatted with a Scottish guy next to us on the flight to Edinburgh, trading travel notes, then saw him driving his Lotus out of the garage--instant envy on my part.

We will be planning our mini-tours of the lower Highlands and Northern Ireland in the next 24 hours, we've got 8 more days here before flying to Paris.
