Sat in on a court session today, with some friends. I get the feeling the judges and lawyers were all staring at us wondering what the heck these five random guys were doing in a courtroom passing notes back and forth (started as notes on how the justice system worked, soon degenerated into "where are we having lunch?") and trying not to giggle like naughty schoolkids.
Then again, since the only clock in the courtroom was directly above us, maybe they were just checking the time.
I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to blog about the details of the case; we weren't really there for for the case itself anyway. The whole thing was an exercise to figure out how the court system in Singapore actually works. The trial judge seemed pretty laid-back in terms of formalities, since he didn't toss the lot of us out for trying to stifle giggles whenever the counsel for the plaintiff made one of his many many verbal trip-ups.
I'm not sure how viable it would be for me to start spectating at court sessions just for curiosity. "Let me watch, I'm nosy" does not strike me as being all that valid an excuse.
I actually like learning about all these sorts of things, and learning them to the point of obsession. I'm not too sure why; there's just something about seeing how others act and speak in different settings that fascinates me. Something about cultural studies, perhaps.
Except that it's not exactly very practical for Real Life, and I hate academia. Rather, I hate that academia seems (perhaps rightly) to be concerned with "this sucks, this is how we should change it" than "hey, look at this, this is so cool".
In other news, I think I'm done with Dragon Age. I'd like to replay the game as something different (Mage, probably), but I honestly do not have the motivation to have to bring along Leliana or Zevran every time just to unlock chests. I like them, but just not for the entire game.
sad excuse for a life
