I don't think recent versions of Magix have the same issue. You could try asking them, or checking their forums.

Assuming it does, or if I can't find it here, what other options would you recommend?

Honestly, I'm not familiar with much beyond the three most popular programs: Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, and Magix. The first two are well beyond your price point. So, uh, check the software sticky?

You mean the one in the General Video forum which has a huge list, somewhat outdated, of possible Non-Linear Editing programs, along with price range and manufacturer website and OS and trial availability and no other information whatsoever?

Checked it already.

The update to the post indicates that I am talking about two of the three most popular programs, namely Vegas and Magix. I can't check the Magix forums, because I don't have the email address and password anymore. I asked in #AMV, and got laughed at for not wanting to pirate Premiere. I asked in the forums, and so far the sole reply barely answers the question, choosing instead to go into ungrammatical vagaries which hurts my eyes just reading it.

You will forgive me if I seem a little annoyed.

There's not much I can say. My personal experience covers Magix and a bit of Premiere. I don't know anyone offhand who has much experience using a prog outside of the big three. So, information on limitations and such is lacking because the userbase is lacking.

While I've heard about the 2gb limitation in Magix, I've honestly never run into it. In the past, most all of my editing in Magix has been done throuh AVIsynth, enabling me to largely avoid the issue.

Now, I guess I need to keep a closer eye on the denizens of #AMV. The morons.

Oh, and I'm very sorry you had to run into post-it. Sorry beyond words.

Oh, and try this: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

With that, you can install makeavis, and get around the 2 GB limit. It's what I do, and it seems to work.
