I am beyond excited that The Epic Tale Of Hi‘iakaikapoliopele is going to be repreinted in 2007 with text & translations by Puakea Nogelmeier (dude has worked with the Hawaiian singer/song writer Keali'i Reichel) and fantastic illustrations by Solomon Enos whose work has inspired me to keep looking to the stories of The People Of Old.

The Epic of Hi'oakaikapoliopele is the story of the Goddess Hi'iaka (the volcano goddess Pele's sister) as she travels from Hawaii Island to Kauai to bring back Lohi‘auipo (Pele's lover)to her sister. Of course the epic isn't that simple. Luckily the chants that make up this epic have been passed down and many beautiful hula tell this story.
