Episode 5.03 reaction post
“Free To Be You And Me”
Every episode so far has had bombshell reveals (no matter how much most of fandom was probably expecting it), but to hear it on the show confirmed - it’s just something else all together.
Mind-blowing? To put it lightly.
The big one for this episode:
Okay, so Dean is the vessel for the Archangel Michael, so of course Sam needs to be the other side of the coin.
I thought that there would be NO WAY that they would go there, but the show has - Sam is Lucifer’s “true” vessel. Lucifer’s current vessel, some guy named Nick (who makes Lucifer look sympathetic as hell, no pun intended…), is barely containing him without combusting…so Lucifer is seeking out Sam.
Oh, and he says he needs Sam’s consent (as we know with the whole business of Dean being a vessel) and of course, Lucifer’s all like, “I won’t trick you or anything.” *bats eyelashes*
Sam isn’t taking the devil’s crap…*crickets* YET. *ominous music*
Dean and Cas are a team! And an awesome one too! The interaction between those two was fun to watch…switching from the funny, the emotional and the awkward.
Funny: Dean telling Cas that humans lie - that’s how you become president.
Emotional: When Dean tries to give Cas a pep talk - that it’s about what Cas believes in and if he believes God is alive and not dead as Raphael said, then Cas should have faith in that and not allow others let him think otherwise.
I did appreciate the parallel Dean made with searching for his own dad (Season 1 shout out, anyone?) despite uncertainty that he could be dead. Yet still he continued on looking for him…
Awkward: Yes, Cas came, saw, and um…didn’t conquer so much as freak out that woman - her name was Chastity…Chastity with an angel… Yeah, real subtle, writers.
Oh, you know, despite that awkwardness - at least Dean got a good laugh out of it, almost carefree. It was nice to see. And then Dean’s realization that he felt freer without being tied down to family (it was always either Sam or their dad). *cheers* Looks like Dean is finally breaking loose from his vicious cycle of putting family first before himself. I thought it was sweet that spending time with Cas (who isn’t Dean’s ideal person to hang out with…) helped to bring that out of Dean.
I really like Dean’s character development and growth so far this season. He is definitely very much a leader this season.
I know he has shown his leadership skills in past seasons, but I love how they’re going to focus on this aspect of his character more. Maybe there will be a chance Dean will defeat Lucifer (hopefully not with Sam as the vessel - please let’s not do that! Though, it would still be kinda cool *is torn*) as Dean and not as Archangel Michael’s meatsuit.
I do have to say that the person cast as Raphael was really well-cast. He was perfect for the role. I mean, this is an Archangel here - it can’t be easy getting into that role.
Cas’s comment about what happens to an Archangel’s vessel after an Archangel vacates it…was a big killjoy for me. I mean, I thought the idea of Dean being Michael’s vessel would be interesting to see played out, BUT if Dean is going to be really messed up after Michael leaves him, then I don’t want it to happen. After all, Cas said it would be even worse with Michael - and Raphael’s vessel was catatonic/unresponsive and just sitting in a wheelchair - I dread to think what could happen to Dean…
Unless, once Michael!Dean defeats Lucifer - then Dean will die a peaceful death, maybe?
Dean is such a bad influence on Castiel, lol!
Loved this line:
“Today, you’re my little bitch.”
There you have it - rebel angel Castiel getting one over an Archangel.
So we now know that Raphael was the one who destroyed Castiel. And there’s a mean jibe by Raphael suggesting that Cas was resurrected by Lucifer (and not God as he’d thought).
Archangel Raphael? Lying liar who lies? Better be!
Poor Castiel!
Next Episode: Flash forward to the year 2014 where Sam wears a white suit. And Cas is stoned all the time? Did I hear that right?
Did everyone see the pictures from the upcoming episode? I have no words… I didn’t know Cas had it in him…
