My thoughts: So I've finished reading five PL 2012 stories, and looking back on those five, "By the Pricking of My Thumbs" came to mind first as the story I most want to rec. *grins*

I adored the story. It dealt with dark themes, which I enjoy especially when the author portrays the drama and angst so well. I thought this story had the right amount of darkness, drama, angst and the epicness of Merlin/Arthur. I really liked her portrayal of Arthur and how noble and strong he tried to be despite being faced with a harrowing situation. This is the noble, kingly Arthur that I like and he was certainly in need of a few hugs by the end of the ordeal. He pulled it together and persevered even as his world seemed to collapse around him. I wanted to put in that I give major kudos for how the author handled Arthur's characterization.

I love how the story pulled me in by starting off with the end, and then you went back in time to learn how Merlin and Arthur reached that point, in that somber yet determined mindset. I also appreciated the author explaining why she put the end at the beginning. Always cool to learn about an author's thought process (goodness knows all the things I think of as I work on my own fics...it's a writer's thing/curse :p).

I included the full fic header here to cover my bases...for those who haven't read the story, I thought it'd be good to see the warnings on the rec and you can decide if you want to click ahead to the story.

It has been a few weeks since I read this story, but the adultery and non-con was something I personally didn't mind. But this is going off my slightly fuzzy memory. Honestly the "dark themes" warning is the biggest warning for the story. It's completely worth reading though (for me at least it had all the elements I enjoyed in a story). I like how things ended, and well, I'm a shameless fan of happy endings or at least endings that aren't too tragic (that there's a bit of hope in the end to cling to).
