The use of Finnish words for some daemon names is a reference to the His Dark Materials trilogy as daemon names were typically Finnish in origin. The daemons for Merlin, Arthur, and Hunith have names that are Polish in origin. These names should be familiar to those who’ve read The Wolf and The Phoenix.
Merlin’s phoenix: Zlocisty/Zlota means ‘golden’
Arthur’s wolf: Krolewska/Krola means ‘royal’
Hunith’s cat: Cieplo means ‘warm’ (for her warm personality)
The photos (thank you, Google image search :p) of some OCs are inserted throughout the story for you to have a visual of how they look. The photo of Bran is of an actor who has been photo manipulated thanks to the magical talents of
reni_m in March 2011. Because it's rather hard to find someone who fits Bran's looks perfectly. I supplied the original photo and the eye color sample of a black cat (in case you're curious).
Josh Dallas (Prince Charming on "Once Upon A Time"...it was just too easy to choose him considering the nature of this story ;)) is how I envisioned the character of Robin to look. I apologize for aging the character five years more than the actor is (35 instead of 30...*facepalm*). He looks young for his age! Ha. Also, Ophelia resembles the talented New Zealand singer, Gin Wigmore, and erm...the singer is nine years older than Ophelia is supposed to be in this story. But when you see the image of her, it's not too hard to believe she could be sixteen.
The Dark Is Rising (book series) references:
Besides the biggest one which is Bran, there’s the black mink (considered a bad omen). I chose the names Greythorne and Rhys for certain characters in tribute to minor characters from the book series.
Mrs. Greythorne is a minor yet awesome female character in the series. Rhys is a Welsh relative of a main protagonist (Will Stanton) of the series. (Not to mention Rhys was introduced in my favorite book of the series (The Grey King), so yeah…love him. *grins*)
