I've been meaning to do this for awhile, finally getting around to it. This is a list of my favorite veteran's blogs, I read these regularly and you should check them out. if you have other reccomended ones let me know.
VetVoice: This is an amazing new site done by the folks at
VoteVets. If you register for an account you have access to all the diaries and other stuff. Political and personal writings by veterans on the left hand side of the political spectrum (not ultra left). Chickenhawk of the Day postings are classic. Many different writers, officers and enlisted. A must read.
IAVA Blog: Done by Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, a group of vets fighting for better treatment of soldiers and veterans. Many different writers, officer and enlisted.
The Sandbox: Another blog with many writers, these posts are taken from many different blogs and stand alone writings. You get everything from on-the-ground reports of combat zones to soldiers recovering at VA hospitals back home. Wide range of views on the war.
2 Dinar: Done by a small group of Marine officers. Pretty independent politically (in the Dem-Rep spectrum). Notable for their criticism of Blackwater, support for environmentalism, questioning of the war, etc.
Calm Before the Sand: Specialist in the US Army, currently serving in Iraq, hasn't updated in over a month so I hope he's OK. Critical of the war but loves the service. Very well written. Nice postings about missing his wife also. Likes punk and hardcore so that's cool too.
Deeper Than War: Done by US Marine Major (he was enlisted when he first got into the Marines) who recenly left the service over his views on the war. Lots of his writing is centered around philosophy relating to the military, war and violence, very interesting. Also kind of came out for Kucinich: "He says a lot of stuff that breaks from the norm. And that makes him a little scary. And that makes him marginal. And that is why the voters will never get a chance to vote for or against him. Because he'll never make it out of the primaries. And that is really too bad."
Army of Dude: Mostly combat diaries and photos from and enlisted US Army soldier. Hates Rush Limbaugh, seems to be pretty liberal.
Inside My Broken Skull: This fellow suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in Iraq. He writes about his recovery, his crumbling marriage, losing visitation rights to see his daughter, trying to go to college, etc. A survivor's tale.
