I get to talk to Dell Support, yay!

Ugh...

So I've been trying to slowly fix my grandpa's desktop and reformat + reinstall XP. So come a few days ago got the install CD running from the CD, etc it gets stuck at the blue screen of 'Do you want to install XP?' or quit, etc. Ok, try every possible configuration of components plugged in or not plugged in (printer, webcam, mouse, keyboard, etc.)

Eventually I boot to the welcome screen (not having reformatted or reinstalled XP mind you) and click on the username to load up XP and BAAAAAAAM BSOD. Bad ram. Oy vey. I opened it up and switch the ram in the slots, etc, etc. Whatever still doesn't work.

So I get to be on the phone with Dell tonight! YAY (sarcasm). I get to have their Tier 1 tech support talk down to me like I'm some 12 year old hunter in Black Temple or some crap like that. Any tips on how to climb the Tiers to someone who you know, talks my language? I am an IT major so I'm not completely incompetent.

Well, besides that I'm enjoying Ubuntu on my HP laptop, use Vista for Games and such and it works really well.

life, 2008, ubuntu, it
