Dungeons & Dragons is DEAD, Long Live D&D

So, I played D&D since it was AD&D back in the early 80s. I had the dungeon masters guide with the Efreet on it. My first box set was the Expert Set with the Isle of Dread module ( Read more... )

One of the great many reasons why you are awesome: Taking the time to write a chronology of your experiences with D&D...while surrounded by strippers.

It wouldn't be nearly as cool if he wasn't surrounded by strippers. Why are my friends so awesome?

I have a great hate for 4th Edition too. You are exactly right, it is World of Warcraft masquerading as my beloved Dungeons and Dragons. I am sadly lacking a group to play 3.5 with, but I do have a group that I run Star Wars Saga Edition for, which is a pretty awesome system. That and I play lots and lots of Shadowrun, if you ever want to try out some cyberpunk/fantasy goodness.

There are many, many people who hate 4.0- I would love to play a 3.0 game, but lack the books and motivation.

after purchasing the main book and monster manual. I have everything I need for a 3.5 game. Campaign in process of creation!

We played Adventure with Axelsen and Nicco, aye! I used the Wendigo character in our Tales of the Extraordinary radio serial.

I am going to play my first 4.0 this SUnday...I am scared. We've been doing a Song of Ice & Fire game for a few months (Game of Thrones), which has been crazy fun. Intrigue is done the same way battles are, with attack roles to wear people down or persuade them. And lots of leg chopping too, though no monsters.

I played 4.0 for almost a year...I have both the players handbooks. And from what I gleaned. it's too much! They changed the system do much I dont feel like I'm playing D&D. Everybody has spell like abilities...can heal some or all of their HP.
You are required to have a balanced selction of characters or you wont survive. We lost almost every character. Some people lost 2, and were on their 3rd!

Generic rules which meant everything was the same power with a different colour to repsresent it being different.

I may be selling my 4.0 books if anyone is interested.
