I read your initial back-and-forth with her, and I thought that you were very polite and reasonable, especially considering that she made it clear early on that she has no respect for anyone's beliefs but her own. Her statement in the last comment she made to you, "That's MY God you are talking about," makes everything pretty clear. If you believe in God, wouldn't that be everyone's God? I don't think she feels that way. She displays an arrogant certainty that she, and only she (or someone who believes exactly as she does) has the right to talk about God. I find that kind of thinking incredibly narrow, and, frankly, un-Christian.

Well, I was blissfully unaware of this conflict until this post. Having read it all, I have to agree that you were civil and pretty much spot on throughout that debacle. Except the shrimp thing. God doesn't hate shrimp.

Amusingly enough, I stumbled upon this article in totally unrelated browsing shortly after having read all this:

10 Things Christians and Atheists Can (And Must) Agree O

I would say that it's also things that Christians and Christians must agree on. If nothing else, I think you'll appreciate the tone.

I was actually surprised that they felt so attacked by you. If you have a faith then people that disagree with you should not seem threatening. Am I wrong to think your faith should carry you??
As a pagan I did find it interesting was this a Moby boards debate or??

it was just something that a friend had posted on her blog that i felt compelled to show my support for gay marriage and repost it.

I only checked your posts to make sure I was correct in assuming I knew the two people you are referring to. No surprise here that I was right. I'm atheist, so what do I know, but my dad's an Anglican priest with a Masters in Theology and he had a blast and felt privileged to attend a wedding this summer where a good friend of my dad's married his homosexual partner. Oh, and they're both priests, too (one even has his PhD in Theology - shock!). You are lovely, and the two people you refer to obviously have a lot of mental health problems.
